"So you're the girl that he spoke about. The cousin he wouldn't want anyone to mess with. Why is that?" Leigh asks with mockery, "Maybe because you are already messed up?" she finished.
Truth is, I am.
"Leigh" Madison warned.
"Maddy, Asher and I have a past and I don't think-"
"It was less than a week ago but okay, I'll consider it as past. He is not going all lovey dovey after you try and wash his cousin with toilet water, that's for sure. If he goes lovey dovey anyways" my sister's ex friend cleared up.
I could kiss Maddy for defending me right now. First ever person to shield me from mean people like Leigh.
"Why do you know too much?!" Leigh was annoyed. Clearly annoyed.
"Let's go now Hope" Madison grabbed my upperarm and dragged me out, seeing how weak Maria's hold is on me.
The clicking of Maddy's heels and the huge crowd was all it took for me to heave a sigh. Finally.
"Are you alright?" Maddy asked as students makes way for her.
"Yeah. You don't have to do that. They'll make it even" I whispered.
"They can't. The thing is, you're fine" she smiled at me.
"Why are you doing this?" I suddenly asked.
She chuckled and shrugged, "Someone told me you needed a friend and I knew you since you're like 8 years old? But we never really talked you know, specially when Laura and I got into a misunderstanding"
"Who-"
"A friend of mine. No need to know really. So see you later" she giggled and hopped to the other side of the hallway, waving to some of her friends on her way.
A friend of Madison.
Who is it?
Madison isn't bad of a person but who have the guts to befriend a goth like me? Well, Maddy surely does.
Before I could even take another step, a grip on my arm took my the other way, "Too much of a super hero Madison is but you my dear Lily won't be having a good day like it was suppose to be"
Maria was not with Leigh now but I could see the madness inside the mean girl. It was suffocating her and it was also scaring me. Why would she hate me that much? We never cross paths, she might've just slept on the wrong side of the bed.
"You know what? Asher is mine and your slut of a sister takes him from me" Leigh blindly stated as she led us to the empty gymnasium.
"Asher and Laura? They're blood related cousins" I was confused.
Leigh likes Asher but Laura is taking Asher from Leigh which I must add that Laura is taken by Jared and Asher's cousin. They are screwed.
"I know. But Laura is the slut of town they say"
"Laura is not a slut you whore" I defended my sister.
She slapped me hard on the face at that, "You don't call me that. Have you even heard yourself? You, Lily Hope, just defended your sister who never really cared about you"
"She cares" I mumbled.
The good people got no one to care for them most of the time because they're the good ones who care for others. Or maybe the bad and crazy people cares so purely yet rarely that others couldn't even see how caring they are.
"She doesn't but you are free to believe what you like to believe Little Lily"
"Why are you doing this?" I felt my tears flowing down my cheeks.
Her eyes are bloodshot as she stares down at my petite frame, "I couldn't get to Laura, I just have to cause it on to someone who is the closest thing to Laura. Which is you. Last night, Asher came to Jared's and was drunk from beer pong the guys loves. You know what he called me?"
"No. I have to go"
She pulled my hair making me yelp as she continued with her narration, "He was all over me and called me Laura! Proved that she is a slut. Jared? Well he knows, I told him. It would just take sometime that Laura Carter gets her mistakes open for the public"
"She doesn't care" I shouted, pained from the grip she has on my hair and her other slapped me then again, "She doesn't care for you. You are a reject. A mistake. A useless excuse of a human and everybody knows it. But her reputation is the world to her Lily. Trust me, she will care"
My heart fluctuated not from liking or anything good but from my panic attacks. I grabbed Leigh's shirt but she pushed me away with one harsh swing making me stumble on the ground, "What's with the act now Hope? I pity your name now dear, because you got no hope, Hope" she laughed at my hyperventilations.
"I-I need-"
She sushed my cry for help, "No. You never needed anything. You'll never need anything goth girl. Just you and yourself"
She left me there hanging for my breath like it was a rope that prevents me from drowning. I need my meds and my pills where at home, sitting pretty on my bathroom cabinets.
I thought I would pass out but this is the survival game, I tried calming myself and the peaceful gym helped me to.
With a better breathing, I took a step to the parking lot. Thank god it is just the other side of the gym and a single wave is all it took for me to grab a taxi home.
Leigh is right. I am alone in this world of survival. Just me, myself and I.
