My Monster

I can’t breathe. I can’t see. I’ve been running so long, it seems like forever, I no longer feel my legs. Its so dark I can’t see. Just endless black. I can’t hear anything. Just the heightened beat of my racing heart and the distant footsteps of my future demise. These woods aren’t friendly anymore like they once were. The birds don’t sing, the content creatures no longer roam the vast landscape.

             No, not since two fateful days ago, when a masked killer decided to wreak havoc on my sweet, content, sleepy town. Very slowly he started to pick and choose his victims. By the time everyone realized, it was already too late. Among these victims was my close friends and family, and every other living soul except me. I would be dead if I didn’t know these woods like the back of my hand. I’m clueless as to why he decided to let me live this long. I’m very curious but I don’t have the luxury at the moment. At the moment I might be at a loss with some things but, one thing I’m for sure is I have to keep running even if my body is begging me not to.

            I feel like screaming. There’s a whirlwind in my head. I can’t bear the fact that I could be dead! But my pondering and curious thoughts always wander back to him. Who is he? Why my town? Why has he kept me alive this long? What does he plan to do with me? No! I can’t think about that now! I have to keep running no matter what! Oh no! Why did I have to fall?! No! no! no! I hear his footsteps coming closer, closer, closer.

            Maybe there’s hope, maybe he hasn’t realized that I’ve fallen. I don’t have many options at this point, so what do I do now? I got it! I’ll hide behind a tree! Okay good, I’m hidden at least. I’ll have some time to spare, so I can

plan my escape. Why do I have the strangest feeling something is behind me? Wait! Someone is behind me…ah!
