She woke up with a sweat again, another dream of her mother, her face desperate as she reached for the light. What was so special about the light? It's blinding and harsh, destroying her in the end.

Claire looked at the sword next to the bed. The draft was cold in this cabin but at least it wasn't from a damned spirit. No, this was some college kid's parents cabin used for parties. Parties she had attended once or twice and now made the occasional stop through.

Claire looked at her watch, 4:19 AM. She should get up now and start her day early. But the wonderful master bed in the cabin was so comfortable and how long had it been since she'd slept in a nice bed. Claire closed her eyes,

"Dear Dad, help me dream in peace."

She rolled over and held the sword with the tips of her fingers. Slowly sleep crept back to her and she dreamed of sweet darkness.

In the dark nothing could hurt her, it was just nothingness that she could lose herself in. A sweet release.

When she awoke this time the sun was up. She groaned, "I'm going to miss you."

She went to get up when a strong ringing came to her ears. Claire fell on the floor as the words slithered in her ears,

"We will find you."

"We'll find you."

"Claire... Novak..."

Her heart raced as she quickly grabbed for the sword. She should have angel proofed the cabin but it was far off and secluded she didn't think she'd be found.

Time to grab stuff and go, she thought. Quickly, snagging food into her bag grabbed her sword and ran. She ran as fast as she could but there was no hiding from an angel.

"Claire." It said. It held the form of a middle aged man. Claire thought how there was a man in there, probably with a family much like she once had.

"Just stay away from me!"

"Give back what belongs to us. It has no right to be in a humans hands!"

"Come get it back from me fair and square!"

The angel made his way towards her and she drew the blade. It had came in her possession the day they tried to save her mother. She had been missing for two years in the hands of an angel who sucked the soul out of her. When they found her she had been so weak. The angel killed her mother and in turn she slayed him with his own sword.

She drew it as the angel dissappeared and reappeared next to her she swung. He missed it barely and had to dodge her attacks. A human shouldn't be so talented with an angel sword but she was practically dancing with it.

She swung for his head which made him dodge her but she quickly spun and jabbed the blade to his abdomen.

The bright light and ringing of angel bells broke out from the mortal body.

"Remember this, my name is Claire Novak, and I will reap the angels who dare come after me."

The angel vanished from the mortals body and there laid a corpse in the woods. Claire looked at the man, he probably didn't want to die. His family probably missed him somewhere and an angel just came into his life and destroyed it.

She closed his eyes so he wasn't staring at the sky and left.

As she came to the next town she noticed a sort of dark cloud over it. She put the angel sword back in her duffle bag so as not to alarm everyday people when she walked into a diner. The waitress took her order and Claire looked around. It seemed like a normal town other then the dark aura above it. Something was here.
