I think I should tell my best friend that I am in fact engaged to someone that I don’t know. It’s been a week since we did dinner with Bree and Lincoln and I’ve made two really good friends. Bree is the one I tell everything to and Lincoln is where I get my information about Logan from. He’s there when I want to cure my boredom and I know that he’s nothing like Evan.
“Hey Luce I’ve moved I want you to come to my new place and see me. I’m sorry I haven’t been around much but I’ve got some big news I wanna tell you in person.” Lucy hadn’t answered her phone when I rang so I left a message hoping that she would have called me back soon. I missed her so much and it had been over a month since I had seen her. She didn’t know anything about Logan; I couldn’t wait to see her reaction.
“Lincoln I’m bored!” I complained. Logan and I were again over at Bree and Lincoln’s house hanging out and the DVD’s were starting to get a little old. Logan was making dinner with Bree in the kitchen and I was sitting on a recliner with a bowl of chips and Lincoln sat of the other recliner opposite me with a can of soda.
“Let’s go for a walk!” He said enthusiastically jumping up from the recliner and spilling soda all over himself. I giggled and tried to hide my amused grin. My boredom was fading already.
“Go change your shirt.” I ordered putting the bowl of chips on the table next to me and standing up. Lincoln headed to his room.
So I guess you could say after last week when Logan told me what he called me a spoiled bitch that things have been a little weird, he talks to me but I give him the cold shoulder. He apologises and I say that it’s fine but then go back to being silent.
“I’m ready!” Lincoln announced when he came back from getting changed. He was wearing a white shirt with a collar and rolled up sleeves.
“Logan I’m taking your fiancé on a romantic walk!” he called out as we walked out the front door. I giggled and glanced over my shoulder to see Logan’s jaw drop.
“He’s gonna kill you when we get back.” I snickered as we walked down the busy streets not going anywhere in particular.
“He knows I was kidding … I hope.” I laughed again and we turned down another street and I saw a park in the distance.
“Yep he’s gonna kill you.”
“So besides my best friend wanting to kill me how are things going with you two?” He asked and I frowned. “That good huh?” he chuckled.
“He keeps saying sorry and I keep telling him it’s fine but I don’t know what to say to him anymore so I guess it’s just really awkward. So he thinks I’m still upset about it.” Lincoln had learned everything from me the day after we went out for dinner. It was the first time after that weird moment when Logan had interrupted out conversation that I had talked about Logan with him.
“He told me that you just kept ignoring him.”
“Yeah. Because I don’t know what to say.”
“Are you willing to give the whole marriage thing a go?” He asked curiously. That was a strange thing to ask and completely off topic. We had just gone from how awkward it was to do you want to love him?
“Are you serious? I’m being forced in to it, I mean Logan’s a nice guy but … I don’t … it’s hard to explain but I …” I trailed off and Lincoln nodded his head as if he understood. “Does Logan wanna give the whole marriage thing a go?” I tilted my head to the side and stared at Lincoln curiously as took in my words.
“I uh … well he said that he wanted to make his mom happy. He did tell me that he thought you were unbelievably hot.” I rolled my eyes.
“So he thinks I’m hot and thinks marrying me is a good idea because it’ll make Eva happy?” I repeated.
“Pretty much.” He nodded his head and I groaned with frustration. “I think he might like you though. He hasn’t said anything but it’s pretty obvious to me.” He went on and I groaned louder. “You don’t want him to like you?” He questioned.
“I don’t want him to like me I want him to get me out of this stupid arrangement!” I growled. It was nice to have someone to vent to, I’d be happy when Lucy got around to returning my call.
“I’m pretty sure he has tried but there’s nothing he can do. Eva and your parents signed the contract and the transaction has already happened. Unless your parents hand back every cent they got from Logan’s parents I don’t think it’s gonna happen.” Lincoln told me in a matter of fact tone.
“But I want to be in control of my love life! Knowing Logan he’ll go back to his womanizing ways as soon we’re married. Let’s face it I’m gonna have to cheat on my husband to have a life!”
“With who?” Lincoln cocked an eyebrow.
“Okay so that’s a stupid idea and I’d never be able to go through with it … even though I hate Logan!” I scrunched my nose at the thought of cheating.
We finally approached the park. “Would you ever consider it?” he asked.
“No. I might not like Logan but I’ve been cheating too many times to do that to someone else. It’s a horrible feeling.”
“But what if you and Logan got married and came to an agreement to live separate lives like you were single?”
“That’s not gonna work for me Lincoln it’s still cheating and to be perfectly honest it’s not fair on me or Logan. And you just said that you thought he liked me.”
“I could be wrong,” he shrugged his shoulders as we walked across the park towards the deserted park, “I think that you secretly like him.” He chuckled and my eyes went wide? Lincoln say what now?
“”What?! No!” I dismissed straight away, probably a little too quickly because Lincoln gave me a knowing look and shook his head.
“You like Logan!” He sang.
“You’re an asshole!” I grumbled.
We finally got to the park and I plonked myself down on the nearest swing. Lincoln stood behind me and began to push the swing. “I’m not an asshole I think it’d be nice if you two at least has a mutual like for each other before you get married.” It would be nice if we could go a few days without bickering.
“A mutual like yeah … but I don’t wanna be pushed in to a loveless marriage. I just wish that Eva could give us a bit more time.” I sighed.
“To fall in love?” Lincoln snickered. I rolled my eyes and I stopped the swing.
“I was gonna say to get out of it but well … yeah.”
“It’ll happen don’t worry.” I glanced at the sunset and momentarily thought that this was kind of romantic. And before I could even comprehend what was happening Lincoln leaned in and pressed his lips against mine. I got caught up in the moment and kissed him back. I couldn’t help it. I mean he’s good looking, friendly and not Logan! Who wouldn’t kiss him back? “Sorry couldn’t help myself.” He grinned when he pulled away. He reached over a tucked a piece of hair out of my face. I closed my eyes as his touch sent thrilling chills through my body. “We should probably get back before Logan comes looking for us.” He said after a few minutes of silence.
“I’m gonna tell Logan.” I croaked as I stood up and started walking back to Lincoln’s house.
“What? No Violet you can’t tell Logan about that! He’ll kill me. He had a hissy fit because Evan started talking to you, can you imagine his reaction if he knew I kissed you?” He panicked.
“I’ll tell him I kissed you.” I shrugged my shoulders. I just needed to tell him. I knew about all of his girls I thought he should at least know about this kiss with Lincoln.
“No Violet just keep this one to yourself.” He pleaded as he chased after me.
“Lincoln how would you feel if your fiancé kissed another guy? It doesn’t matter that we’re in an arranged marriage I feel bad and I need to tell him.”
