This chapter is pretty much last chapter but in Riley's POV back at the prison. I don't know how I really feel about this chapter, but I wanted to show you Riley and Merle's relationship and thoughts on one another and on the others. Anyways, on to the story!
I stood around the table as everyone loaded guns. Rick and the others had just left to meet with the Governor so we wanted to make sure we had everything ready just in case.
"Carl, come here," Glenn stated.
I looked up momentarily as he handed Carl a box of ammo and then one to Beth before looking down at the gun I was working on.
"If anyone gets pinned down, we need to make sure that they have plenty of ammo. I'll go work on the cage outside."
"What we should be doing is loading some of this firepower in a truck and paying a visit to the Governor." Merle commented, stopping Glenn in his tracks. "We know where he is right now."
I stopped what I was doing to watch their conversation, Michonne doing the same thing next to me.
"Are you suggesting we just go in and kill him?"
"Yeah, I am."
"We told Rick and Daryl we'd stay put," Michonne said, looking to Merle when she said Daryl.
"I've changed my mind, sweetheart. Being on the sideline with my brother out there," He paused, shaking his head, "ain't sitting right with me."
I silently agreed with Merle. My sister was out there and she could be in danger! But I wasn't going to voice my opinion. We told Rick we'd stay here and that's what we're going to have to do.
"The four of them are right in the middle of it. No idea we're coming. They could get taken hostage or killed. A thousand things could go wrong." With that Glenn turned and began to walk away.
"And they will!" Merle's reply stopped Glenn once again.
"My dad can take care of himself." Carl said, staring down the older Dixon.
"Sorry, son, but your dad's head could be on a pike real soon," Merle stated as Carl walked away not bothering to glance back.
"Don't say that to him," Maggie said, speaking up from the opposite side of the table from me.
Merle shrugged choosing to keep his mouth shut for once.
"It's not the right move. Not now. Can't take the risk of putting them in the crossfire. That's my decision. It's final."
I watched as Glenn made his way outside before I looked over at Merle. He sighed before leaning against the cell and shaking his head. I walked the few steps over to him, sighing as I, too, leaned against the cell.
"Not just my brother's out there. Your sister's out there, too." Merle started before I even had a chance to open my mouth.
"I know, but Glenn's right. We could end up getting them killed."
Merle glared down at me and pushed away from the cell. "I can't just sit here twiddling my thumbs while my brother's out there," Merle growled.
"I understand, trust me I do, but I know Chelsea will come back. She always does. Plus, Daryl's with her and he'd never let anything happen to her." I tried to reason.
"Yeah, but who's gonna protect him?" Merle grumbled as he grabbed a bag off the floor and slammed it onto the table.
I watched as he began to load it with guns and opened my mouth to tell him to stop, but I was cut off by Glenn.
