Danny's Point of View

I walk through the door of Julie's room, a smile on my face. The events of days prior have been long forgotten, at least for now. Today is Halloween, Julie's favorite day of the year. I'm not going to let anything ruin it.

The girls are sitting outside the door, waiting for their turns to visit. They let me go first, knowing how much I needed to see her.

I sit down and hold her hand. "Happy Halloween, love. It sucks that you can't be here for it. All your friends are getting dressed up, just for you."

I smile at her again, knowing how happy she'd be if she were awake. Tears collect in my eyes, but I blink them away. Now is not the time for sadness.

She looks so beautiful, as always.

Does that count as necrophilia? I ask myself. I hope not.

I fall silent (thoughts and all), listening to the steady beeps of the heart monitor. Suddenly, the steadiness turns into one, long line and a single deafening beep.
