Arisa pov:

"Ari sama, L-Leo tired. Too hot," Leo whined with a tug to my coat. I looked down at him as he walked sluggishly beside me.

Stopping a moment, I kneeled in front of him and said, "Why don't you transform into a mouse so you can ride in my coat?"

He didn't hesitate for even a moment as he shrunk in size and quickly scurried up my arm. He made his way into my coat, finally coming to sit at the base of my neck. He let out a squeak making me chuckle.

I gathered his clothes and coat that were left on the sand and folded them before putting them into my bag. We had been travelling through the hot desert for a couple of hours now, after stocking up on food, lots of water and two cloaks from the military camp in Liore. We were sweaty and constantly thirsty, as anyone would be traveling in such landscape, and the weight of my bag wasn't helping.

Now that we had stopped a moment, I figured that it was time to take care of the pest that had been following us. He had kept his distance from us while we walked but he was clearly visible thanks to the lack of vegetation or anything else in the desert. However, we were just exiting some Ishval ruins so Lt. Ashford had caught up and was hiding behind one of the nearest walls.

Unsheathing the dagger I had at my waist, I touched the sharp tip of the blade with a mischievous smile. I was quick to throw the dagger at the wall and it lodged right next to his face while he tried to peep at me. With a startled yelp, he fell backwards. Now that he was exposed, I turned to meet his gaze with an amused smile.

"Lt. Ashford, what do I owe for this surprise visit of yours?" My tone was mocking and he caught it.

With a click of his tongue, he stood and dusted his clothes with as much dignity he could summon. Then glaring, he spat, "Why would I want to visit a brat like you?"

"Good point. So, why are you following me then? Am I right in thinking that Col. Archer doesn't trust me?"

My question made him tense – it was answer enough to my question. Shaking my head, I chuckled and stepped to the wall to retrieve my dagger. When it was back in its sheath at my waist, I looked to Lt. Ashford again and said, "I would suggest you stop following me. I work alone and I get pretty pissed if I have someone with no skills tailing me like a lost puppy."

My words struck a nerve and the lieutenant was lunging at me the next moment in a rather pathetic attempt to attack. I slid to the side on the sand, one foot sinking as I put more weight on it to dodge the lieutenant's fist that came at my head. Taking a hold of his arm that flew past me, I tugged him over my shoulder to throw him on his back hard on the sand. He landed with a gasp in pain, his eyes going wide. Upon letting go of his arm, he rolled onto his side while clutching his torso and coughed.

"I already told you to not piss me off. It would be best for you to turn around and head back to the military camp in Liore if you don't want me to rough you up more and leave you to dry up in the middle of the desert."

He didn't need a second warning to curse at me leave with the dust rising behind him. My brow twitched while I watched his retreating figure.

"Really? Was that all that was needed to get him to stop following me? I should have done this even before he got onto the train with me. I mean, how silly can a guy get?"

With a sigh and a shake of my head, I continued through the boiling desert to the Isvhal settlement, hoping that I would find it soon.

Scar pov:

"So, he's going to be okay, right? My husband will be okay, won't he, Raff sama?" spoke a woman, an Isval civilian, to a healer who had settled here. I stood a little away with my arms crossed while I observed him and all that he did.
