I stared in the mirror at the mark on my shoulder blade. Running my finger across it, this was his mark; his claim. I exhaled slowly; the mark was a swirl in shape and a deeper tan colour to my skin. It looked like a tattoo, but if you looked very closely you could see the small bite marks; which were scarred around it.
Tracing my finger across it again, I just couldn’t get over it. I heard the cabin door open and I quickly pulled my t shirt collar back up and stepped away from the mirror.
I turned around, just as Connor walked into the room. “What are you doing?” He asked curiously. Amusement flicked across his eyes as he began to smile again, I rolled my eyes at the grin, which had been on his face all day. “Nothing. Are we there yet?”
Connor’s grin fell slightly before he nodded his head. “We just docked. You sure you still want to do this.” I noticed how Connor’s jaw began to clench and his eyes went a shade darker.
“Yes, as I said before and for most of last night. I will be fine.” I arched both eye brows and moved to stand a few inches away from him. “This will all be sorted before we know it.”
“I doubt that.” Connor grumbled under his breath while reaching out and taking my hand in his. “Your father really pisses me off.”
“Yeah he does that.” I placed my hand on his shoulder, knowing under the black fabric t-shirt was the mark I had left on him; my claim, my mark.
“Umm.” I was only slightly aware of Connor trying to get my attention, while I stayed memorised with the mark that is on his shoulder, under his t-shirt.
“You’re not listening.”
“What?” Glancing up at Connor, he had a smug look on his face, that I had just proved his point. “Sorry, what were you saying?”
“Promise me, you won’t block me out.”
Frowning up at him, “Are you talking about our connection?”
Connor cracked a sly smile, “What else would I be talking about?”
“Does it work?” I smiled and leaned in closer, “Our own private mind link, that’s sort of neat.”
“Well drop your shield then we will see.” Connor raised an eye brow and smiled down at me.
Closing my eyes and focusing on my mind link to him. I hadn’t experienced this before, I wasn’t even aware I had a shield in place blocking him out. I knew how to block my family out, that was second nature. This was different.
“You’re really beautiful, Is.”
My eyes snapped open as I heard Connor’s voice tinkle through my mind for the first time.
“You’re in my mind.” I whispered back into his for the first time.
“And you’re in mine.” His husky inner voice bounced through my mind.
“Gosh that is strange.” I said out loud, with a large grin on my face. “So we will never be apart.”
“Exactly the point.” Connor smiled, “Come on, as much as I don’t want to say good bye, you should be going.”
A grim smile crossed my lips. I didn’t realize how much I was going to miss him until now. Following behind him, as we walked from the bedroom; I silently wished we never had to be apart.
My eyes were glued to the boat which bobbed close to the shore as Connor and I stood on the beach; my heart was heavy as I thought of leaving him, and I assumed his was as well. I could smell my guards approaching, so I knew we didn’t have much time.
