We walked to class hand in hand, and took our seats. Since the girl that used to sit next to me moved, Shane became my new lab partner. I can't say that I was saddened by this, Shelly was a good friend, but Shane is a better choice. Even though he isn't the smartest.
We had to do a lab today that involved Kool-aid. We had to use three different measurements of the powder with water and measure the concentration.
Mrs. L, I can never remember her name, said, "One person from each pair will come up and get the materials while the other will get the packet for the lab."
Shane volunteered to get the materials so that left me to get the packet. I walked up to the front of the class and accidently bumped into some girl and she spilled her cup of water on herself. "Watch where you're going freak!"
The class burst into laughter. I'm not sure if it was aimed at me or her, but I didn't want to stick around and find out. I ran from the class and went towards the girl bathroom. Can't I make it through one class without having something happen?
I made it to the girl's bathroom without anyone stopping me. I went into one corner and sat on the tile floor and cried. I don't remember when the last time I cried was, especially over something this stupid. I was supposed to be the girl that didn't care what people did or thought of her. But something has obviously changed that.
My vision was blurred so I didn't see her at first. But once my tears had finally ceased, I saw her clear as day. That girl that I saw everywhere. She never changed; she always wore the same thing. She had long blonde hair, blue eyes, and she was wearing this black hoodie.
"W-who are you?" I asked her.
She responded with words that were spoken with complete clarity. "I am you."
And with that she vanished. What had she meant? What is 'I am you?' suppose to mean. There is only one me, and that's myself only. I didn't have much time to think about it because there was someone knocking on the bathroom door. "Rikku? Is that you?" I heard from outside. It sounded like Zander I think.
I didn't know for sure, but I spoke back, my voice a little shaky from seeing that girl. "Yeah, it's me."
"You alone in there?" Now I definitely knew it was Zander.
I got up off the floor and went to the door and opened it. "Yeah, I'm alone." He looked back at me with confused eyes. It was probably because of the eye liner and mascara streaks on my face. "Are you going to come in or just stand there?"
He walked in without another word. I looked into the mirror above the sink and saw that I looked horrible. I washed my face with water and got most of the make-up off, with the exception of some of the mascara. I looked up at Zander and asked, "What are you doing here?"
"I was just out of class for no..." he looked at me and then said slowly "reason..."
The way he was looking at me made me feel self conscious. "You ok, Z?"
Whatever it was, it was gone. "Yeah, I'm fine. I think I should go back to class..." his voice trailed off, like he needed an excuse to leave.
I took out my phone and saw that there was only about 15 minutes of class left so there wasn't any real reason to go back to class. "There's only 15 minutes of class left so there's no point in going back to class right now. If there's something you want to say, then say it."
"There's nothing. Look, I have to go back to class. I'll see you at lunch." He hesitated and kissed my cheek before he left. I didn't really think anything of it, so I went out and walked towards my locker to get my make-up bag and fix my face.
While I was walking there, I ran into this guy who I hadn't seen around. I know it sounds really cheesy, but I bumped into him and made him drop his books and his binder. "Oops, I'm so sorry." I bent down and helped him pick it up.
"No it's fine, I got it." He looked up and saw me and there was something there. I could feel it deep within my bones. I have never seen this guy in my life and now I... I honestly have no idea. Stuttering, he said "Hi, my name is Jayce. I'm new here."
"I can tell. I know a newbie when I see one. My name is Rikku, nice to meet you."
"Yeah, same here." He smiled at me and I couldn't help but feel my heart tug. I really need to get a hold of myself. I smiled back and extended my hand with his book in it to him as I stood. He got up and received it.
I needed to get to my locker and redo my make-up before the bell. "So I'll see you around then?" I asked him.
"Maybe. Most likely I'll stick out like a sore thumb roaming these hall ways," he joked. I couldn't help but laugh a little. Not because it was funny, but because it was probably true.
"Then I'll most definitely see you later." I smiled at him and continued to walk to my locker. I couldn't stop thinking about Jayce, but I have Shane now. So why does this guy that I just met have to make me feel this way?
I made myself stop thinking about it and put it into a box in my mind until I could really think about it. When I got to my locker, I didn't have time to go back to the bathroom, but thankfully I have a mirror in my locker. I opened it and got my make-up all redone an just as I slammed the door shut, the bell rang.
The first person I saw come down the hallway was Shane. He even had my bag, which I was surprised because I didn't think he would want to be caught dead with it. But then again, maybe that's why he was running so fast.
When he reached me, he handed me my bag and was panting for breath. It took him a few seconds before he could say anything. "What happened to you back there in class?" he asked out of breath.
"Nothing really important... I couldn't tell if people were laughing at me or not and I didn't really want to stay and find out, so I ran."
"Oh... Well are you ok now?" he had caught his breath and was talking normally now.
"Yeah I'm fine now." I smiled at him and didn't bother to mention the girl in the bathroom or Jayce. I'll save that for another day. Or after school. Or just for another time. Maybe he'll see Jayce himself and have him in one of his classes so I won't have to bring him up.
