"Ugh, just put me out of my misery." Anora whined as she rested her head on the kitchen table. The cold was not giving up easily and causing the woman to be absolutely miserable.

"Don't talk like that." Charlie said setting down a bowl of soup before her.

"What's that?" she sniffed.

"It's soup."

Anora looked down at the green goop.

"That's soup...are you sure?"

"What else would it be?"

"It looks like goblin sh-" Charlie gave her a look. "I mean, mmm soup."

Lifting up her spoon, Anora eyed the soup with a worried look before taking a deep breath and eating a spoonful.

"It's good, isn't it?" Charlie smiled proudly.

Anora forced a smile on her face. "Deli-" Suddenly, it appeared as though she was gagging. She jumped up from her chair and ran out of the room.

"You're over exaggerating!" he yelled after her as he heard her spit up the food in the bathroom.

He walked over to the pot on the stove and grabbed a spoon. Taking a spoon himself, he immediately spat back in the pot.

"Oh my...eck!" he turned on the sink and attempted to rinse off his tongue.

"You should really just stick to dragons and leave the cooking to people who can actually cook." Anora said when she returned.

"I'm sorry I didn't think it would turn out so bad.."

"So bad? Charlie that was death in soup form." she said. "I am not eating any more of that."

"Don't worry I already dumped it down the drain. I don't understand how Mum makes it look so easy."

"Your mum has a gift, one she did not pass down to you unfortunately."

"Alright, alright, I get it." he said. "Do you want me to get Nicola to make you some real soup then?"

"No, I'm really not hungry anymore."

"You have to eat something!"

"But I don't want to."

"Anora, if you don't eat something I will shove a tube down your throat and force you to eat."

"I'm fine. I'm never hungry when I'm sick."

"I'll get Nicola to make you something." he replied stubbornly leaving the cabin.

Anora shook her head before looking down to Iggy. "He never listens. You'd think I caught the plague by the way he's been acting lately."

She returned to the room and laid down on the bed. Resting her head on the pillow, it didn't take long for her to become sleepy again from the medicine Sebastian had given her.

The past couple of days, Charlie had become Nurse Charlie and no matter how much Anora protested and told him that she could manage on her own, Charlie wasn't letting her out of his sight unless he was working in the sanctuary . During those times he had someone come in and check on her as if she were on her death bed.

She warned him to not get too close or he would wind up catching but she had but he didn't listen. Every night, he slept beside her, soothing her to sleep with back rubs and comforting words.

Anora had never been more confused in all her life, Charlie was her best friend but they way he held her and took care of her during her sick days, she almost began to fantasize how it would be if they were more than just friends.

But she knew Charlie was naturally compassionate towards everyone and everything. She was sure he would do that for just about anyone he cared for.

When Charlie came back, the home was quiet which meant Anora was already asleep. He carefully set down the soup that Nicola had made her on the spot and headed to the back room. He chuckled as he found her sound asleep on his side of the bed. He carefully walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. He checked her forehead which was still really warm before he pushed the hair that had fallen in her face back.

The roughness and coldness of his hands had stirred her from her sleep. She opened her eyes slowly and turned over on her side to face him.

"Sorry, I'm on your side, aren't I?"

"No, it's okay, we never assigned sides." he told her.

"Are you going to lay down?" she asked.

"I was actually going to head into-" he stopped as he locked eyes with her. "Sure I'll lay down with you."

Anora stretched and scooted over so he could lay down on his side of the bed.

"Whoo, thank you for keeping my spot warm." he said as he crawled onto the bed.

"You're welcome." she smiled.

"I have soup for you out in the kitchen when you're ready for it."

She made a face.

"Nicola made it." he said.

"That doesn't make it any better." she said with amusement.

"Oh stop it, you love Nicola."

"Yes, I love her like that crazy aunt that shows up during the holidays and gives you a jar full of buttons as a gift."

Charlie stared at her blankly for a moment. "Your Aunt Birdy?"

"Yup, I still have that jar actually now that I think about it."

"What would one do with a jar of buttons?"

"It's actually quite useful when I lose a button on my shirts. So yes Aunt Birdy is crazy but useful...just like Nicola."

" are just..." he watched her as her eyes closed slowly only to open when he didn't finish his sentence.

"Just what?"

When he didn't answer she began to drift off again.

"Perfect." he finished.
