The Enchanted Forest Many Years Ago
The waterfront was quiet except for the occasional splash from rocks thrown into the waves. Gracie's feet were soaked, her shoes were abandoned on a rock by the edge of the forest. Her dress skimmed the top of the water as she dallied in the shallows. From afar no one would have even guessed this tiny, delicate looking girl was capable of performing the most evil tasks. But, up close, the face that was once lit up with a bright smile was now replaced with a devilish grin. And one look at her once blue necklace, they would automatically know it was Gracie. Her necklace was no longer blue, but was now black due to her heart turning dark. Every time Gracie used her magic it glowed darkly.
As much as people feared Gracie, they also felt sorry for her. Everyone knew the Evil Queen had corrupted the little girl, turning her into a weapon she gladly used.
Gracie, however, saw no problems with the way she now was. She finally felt free of everything and more importantly felt powerful. The little 9 year old was proud of her dark accomplishments. There wasn't a day she regretted crushing the heart of those who got in her way, which was why she was so feared.
However, today she didn't feel as powerful. As she skipped rocks into the crashing waves her mind was occupied by one thing. The one thing she wished so dearly she could ruin.
Her parents wedding.
Gracie had cheered the day Regina told her about the wedding, for she thought Regina would want to ruin the spectacular day as well. But, Regina had other plans. As much as Gracie wanted to disobey Regina's commands, she knew she could never go against her. Regina hadn't told Gracie her plans yet. The only thing Regina said was it would destroy Snow and Charming's happiness, and that's all Gracie wanted.
But today it felt like Gracie's happiness was being destroyed. Regina had told Gracie the awful things her parents did to both of them, and Gracie believed every last bit of it. But, there was a little nagging voice at the back of her head telling her it was all a lie. Gracie ignored the little voice, she didn't think Regina would lie to her. And as much as Gracie despised her parents she sometimes wished they could be a happy, little family. Gracie loved Regina with all her heart, but Regina was lacking something Gracie longed for. That motherly love Regina once had was replaced by a love for Gracie's magic. Gracie felt that Regina loved Gracie's magic more than anything now, for it have Regina more power. This thought hurt Gracie but she believed it was true.
This wedding made Gracie hurt even more. She realized Snow and Charming continued their life as if Gracie never happened, as if they completely forgotten they abandoned their daughter and didn't know if she was alive or not. Gracie realized as much as she hated her parents, she wished they loved her. However, she would rather have nothing to do with them.
Gracie heard the familiar sound of someone teleporting to her, and without turning around she knew it was Regina.
"Are you ready, my little princess?" Regina asked, her voice cold.
"Never been more ready," Gracie replied while throwing one last stone.
"Gracie, your dress is soaked!" Regina hollered, "You can't be showing up not looking perfect. You want to be stunning so they regret they ever abandoned you."
"Easy fix," Gracie rolled her eyes and with a flick of her hand, the dress looked good as new.
Regina smiled down at her daughter. She took the child's small hand in hers and in a flash they disappeared.
"I know pronounce you husband and wife."
The guests around the couple cheer and clap, even Grumpy gets in on it. The beautiful bride dressed in white leans in to her Prince. The lovely couple is Snow White and Prince Charming, of course. They lean in for their fairy tale kiss, just as the doors slam open, breaking them apart. Everyone's heads turn and gasps escape from the crowd.
"Sorry I'm late."
The Evil Queen smirks, and beside her Gracie does too. Regina begins walking forward, Gracie only a step behind. Two guards come from the front and Regina easily knocks them down. Two more come from behind, and it's Gracie's turn to show she's just as powerful.
Both Snow and Charming looked shocked, and Gracie's not sure if it's because she's there or because Regina just interrupted the wedding.
"It's the Queen, run!"
Snow reaches over and swiftly pulls out Charming's sword. Just as she points it their way, Gracie points one directly back.
"She's not the queen anymore, she's nothing but an evil witch and a kidnapper," Snow shouts, quickly glancing at Gracie.
"No, no don't stoop down to her level," Charming takes the sword away, "you're wasting your time you've already lost. And it's only a matter of time till we take Gracie back."
"Oh, that won't be happening," Gracie laughs as she runs her finger over the swords blade, "there's no way you'll ever get me back."
A saddened look spreads across Snow's face. She had thought Gracie wanted to be rescued. Gracie chuckled again at the thought of that.
"I will not let you ruin this wedding."
"Oh, I haven't come here to ruin anything," Regina says, "On the contrary, dear, I've come to give you a gift."
"Unless that gift is our daughter back, we want nothing from you," Snow speaks up.
"Me giving up Gracie? How crazy if you to say such a thing," Regina puts her hand on Gracie's shoulder, "My gift to you is this happy, happy day. But tomorrow, our real work begins. You've made your vows, now I make mine. Soon, everything you love, everything all of you love, will be taken from you. Forever. And out of your suffering, will rise my victory, our victory. I shall destroy your happiness, if it is the last thing I do."
"And there is nothing you can do to stop us," Gracie adds in, "We're a powerful team, you see. And if you hurt us, something worse will be coming your way."
Regina and Gracie turn at the same time and begin walking away. Gracie feels more powerful than ever. Seeing the hurt look on her parents faces made her day.
The mother and daughter turn around to see a sword coming their way. Gracie knows she's in no harm, but Regina disappears just as the sword reaches where she was standing. Gasps and whispers fill the crowd. Gracie remains in her spot at the couple hold each other tight.
"You've made some big mistakes, Mother," Gracie says, making sure to emphasize the word Mother.
Snow feels her heart break, she can tell her daughter has been forced to believe that she and Charming are the evil ones.
"You don't understand, Gracie," Snow shouted out and took a step forward, "please, listen to us. You've been told lies! You aren't who you think you are, please trust us!"
"Trust you? Ha!" Gracie laughs, "That's the last thing I'll do."
And just like Regina she disappears in a cloud of smoke, leaving her parents heartbroken. Snow looks at Charming, a tear on her cheek. This was the last thing she expected on her wedding day.
