Anna and Harry: 22
Anna managed to open the door, holding her usual bag plus another two bags with groceries. She stumbled into the kitchen, where she dropped the bags careless. The apartment she shared with her boyfriend of three years, Harry, was really tiny. It only had one bedroom, one bathroom, the kitchen and the living room. They didn't feel cramped anyway. It was enough for the two of them, they'd never felt the need for more space.
Maybe, until now.
She put all the groceries at their designed places in the small kitchen, with shaky hands, and walked the short path to the living room. She sat abruptly at the couch and rubbed her temples. Then, she took out her phone and dialed Harry's number. As she heard the rings, waiting, her stomach twirled. She was biting her nails and tapping her foot on the floor.
"Love" he heard Harry's voice in the phone.
"Harry" she said, almost crying. He must have picked up on her distress, because he took less than a second to ask.
"What's wrong? Where are you?"
Here it comes. Anna was sure. Was she? God, it was so hard to say it out loud.
"I'm at home, in the living room. When are you coming home?"
She knew the answer. Harry had uni in the mornings, and he worked in a café near the campus every afternoon. It was right across from her workplace; a little music store. Harry had just finished working and now was in the car, on his way home.
"I'll be there in fifteen minutes. Why?? Please tell me baby"
Anna took a deep breath.
"Remember how I was sick last week? And I thought it was just a bug? Well today we were talking about pregnancies in class, and suddenly a lot of things sort of clicked. So I bought a few pregnancy tests, and I can't do this without you. I'm sitting in the couch, staring at the white boxes. And I'm freaking out, please don't freak out too"
She could only hear Harry's breath, in and out Who, by the way, shouldn't be driving and talking on the phone at the same time.
"Are you freaking out?" Anna asked.
"A little" was Harry's response. "Fuck" Neither talked for a while, until Harry broke the silence.
"Just calm down. We'll get through this, I'm sure, whatever it is. Make yourself a cup of tea and wait for me, okay? I'll be there in ten."
"Okay, don't speed" Anna whispered.
"I love you" Harry said, and it certainly made her chest warmer.
"I love you too"
Ten minutes later, the longest ten minutes of her life, she heard Harry open the door in a hurry. She was standing in the kitchen, her knees shaking, while holding a cup of warm chocolate between her hands. She calmed down a little bit when she saw Harry's reassuring smile enter the room. That's how they were. Both of them were a perfect combination of strong, nervous, weird and good souls. Walking contradictions, people told them. They fitted together like gloves from the moment they met, and they had gotten through so much together. Anna didn't fear about her future with Harry.
He pulled her in a tight hug, just what she needed, and he knew.
"Do you want to do it now, or wait for a bit?" Harry asked. Anna hesitated for a moment. "Now" she said, and Harry kissed her forehead.
She walked into the bathroom and followed the instructions in the white box rigorously. It wasn't that hard to do anyway, it's not like she needed Harry's help. She came out of the tiny bathroom, Harry was waiting at the door. They walked to the bedroom and sat down on the bed, Harry holding her close.
