This video is part of a fascinating and moving (to me at least) series of interviews. They're all World War 2 survivors and I found this one particularly heartbreaking.
Zinaida Inavova was a young girl during the Siege of Leningrad. She survived the siege but even today describes herself in the video as "completely alone." I won't spoil the video but it's not only a haunting description of starvation, but also of the long-term medical conditions someone like Karen might suffer as a result of their survival.
