Scarlet's POV

I smiled a little bigger than I should have as my brother and I went home. He ran, I flew. It's probably not a good thing to develop feelings for a boy I just met, but...oh, well. It happened. He was just so...cute. Inside and out. He was funny, charming, and didn't get freaked out by my...inhuman parts. He was calm and quiet enough to listen to me, but loud enough to keep a conversation going. I flapped my wings harder, feeling the cool wind against them. Once I felt like I was high enough, I folded up my wings, allowing gravity to pull me down. I smiled as I felt the wind blowing softly against my face. When I got closer to the ground, I unfolded my wings. When I first learned to fly, I would let myself drop, and open my wings at the last minute. I would snap back and it hurt. A lot. So now I unfold them and curve back up. We finally got back home. I was careful to land in the alley, where no one would see me. I landed gracefully, taking a few steps to keep my balance. I folded back my wings, allowing them to hide underneath the skin on my back, so I looked like an average human. Wally and I walked back in the house and were greeted by our parents.

"So did you meet everyone?", mom asked me.

"Yeah. They all seem pretty cool.", I responded. I walked to the kitchen and grabbed two apples. One for me and one for Wally. I handed Wally his apple and he smiled gratefully at me as he took a bite.

"Are you excited for school tomorrow?", dad asked.

"Not really. I just haven't been around other kids for a while."

"You'll be fine. They'll love you! Besides, my friends Dick Grayson, will be there.

"Oh. O-okay, I guess. It's getting kinda late. I should get ready for bed. Goodnight, everyone."

"Goodnight.", they all said. I sat on my bed, taking small bites of my apple. I took my time, hoping that the time will pass more slowly. I got bullied even before I became 2% robot. Now I've been separated from other kids for 4 years. How can I hope to get bullied any less? I sighed when I finished my apple. Moving as slowly possible, I threw the apple core away, changed into pajamas, and crawled into bed, pulling my blankets over me. I tried to stay awake, but I couldn't. Sleep overwhelmed me. My eyes closed and sleep washed over me.

The next day, I went to the bathroom and took a shower. I dried off, put on my new school uniform, tied my hair in a ponytail, and walked to the kitchen for breakfast. Mom handed me a plate of pancakes, which I happily ate. Wally wasn't even awake yet and he was supposed to give me a ride to school. I didn't want to fly on my first day, especially since I hadn't gotten a school sweater to cover the holes in my shirt from where my wings spread out.

"Wally!", I yelled. He sped downstairs, ate his breakfast, and got in the car in seconds thanks to his super speed. I got in the car and we were at the school in 25 minutes. I was hoping it would take longer than that.

"Do I really have to go?"

"Come on. You're 14 and you're ahead one grade. You don't have much school left to go. Just...get through one day at a time."

"I don't want to get through a day at a time."

"It won't be that bad. You'll be fine. Just...act natural."

"But natural for me is letting my wings out and using the computer in my eye for all the answers. That's what they made me do in therapy every day."

"Then...don't be normal. Just relax. It'll be great."

"Okay. You're picking me up, right?"

"Don't be late. I don't want to be here any longer than I have to."
