«Well, well» Daron buries his face in his hands «we already have our issues, we just needed to have an issue such as taking care of an unknown beaten-up girl...»

«Oh, quit complaining!» I reproach «when she gets better we'll intrust her to a hospital or to someone who knows her, happy?»

«Not really, but okay» he mutters, looking at me and then at the girl. The situation is already not easy, it'd be better for Daron to not make it harder.

«Instead of being grumpy, why don't you come with me so we can set up the guest room and put the girl to bed?»

«Okay...» the guitarist answers, without too much enthusiasm, and follows me upstairs, going through the corridor that communicates with our rooms; luckily the guest room has been used quite recently and doesn't smell bad and it's tidy. While Daron manages to get the bed ready I carefully observe the girl, trying to guess how her features look like under the swelling bruises, the dust and the blood: I think she's not older than 23 or 24, it's not a familiar face seen somewhere and she's also too skinny, sustaining her body isn't tiring.

«Your orders have been executed, boss!» Daron acts like a soldier standing at attention.

«You fool» I chuckle, slightly pushing him with a shoulder, then I put down the girl and cover her with blankets and covers.

«Who knows what she's been through...» I murmur, watching her.

«I wonder what she'll bring us» Daron whispers, looking at her too. «I hope she won't be trouble.»

«I'm sure she won't be, don't worry.»

Shavo appears in that right moment, surely he's got news.

«He should be here in a few minutes»

«Perfect.»

It seems like an hour has passed when someone knocks at the door and the anxiety decreases a bit.

«Serj!» the man on the doorstep comes towards me and greets me with a hug.

«Arek! I was anxiously waiting for you» I say. «Probably my band mate Shavo explained you something when he asked you to hurry up.»

«Yeah, he told me you found an injured girl in a street and you don't know her real conditions» Arek answers, thoughtful. «Where is she?»

«Come, I'll show you.»

The doctor follows me upstairs and, after opening the guest room's door, I stop and let him go ahead before reaching him again.

«When did you find her?»

«Like twenty minutes ago. I found her while having a walk.»

«How was she?»

«She was conscious and then passed out in my arms, don't know why.»

The man puts down his handbag and approaches the girl; he takes her wrists, one by one, checking the position of the arms from various angles.

«The hearbeat is good, regular and not very shallow, and judging by the position her arms have no fractures» he says. «About the visible injuries» and he looks at her face «she's got a cut on a lip and has had a bit of nosebleed, though there are no swelling and bruise so it isn't broken, I guess she hasn't been hit fully on the nose. Can I remove the covers to check the rest?»

«Sure.»

Arek checks her legs and nods in approval, there isn't anything broken there; he's quite embarrassed when he has to half-remove the girl's top so he can check her chest and we both gasp at the sight of several bruises on her ribs and abdomen.

«We should revive her in order to check if she's got some fractures we can't see, but just for this, then we'll let her sleep. She's really had a hard time tonight, it's almost a miracle that she got out of it with only injuries like these... people who get beaten up can also risk their life.»

I take some vinegar and put it near the girl's face; she moves but hardly opens her eyes. She must be really exhausted.

«I'll be quick, we don't know for how much time she'll be conscious» Arevik says and starts to gently touch her on the ribcage, arms and legs; she almost doesn't react, except when his hand touches the bruises.

«Well, I'm done» he says. «She didn't scream and apparently there isn't any broken bone. She should get better with plenty of rest.»

We hear a sigh and boggle, then see that the girl has peacefully fallen asleep.

«Thanks a lot, Arek.»

«You're welcome, Serj» he smiles. «Anything for a friend.»
