Halfway through the lesson the classroom phone rings and Mr.Hoffman pauses to answer it. He opens the box and and pulls out the phone, nodding his head every now and then as he answers the person on the other end with a quick yup. He ends the conversation quickly, putting the phone back in the box and closing it.
"Grace, Ms.Warner wants you down in guidance." He says looking in my direction.
I nod once again, and pick up my things. Aubrey snickers to herself. I reluctantly look up towards her as I shove my binder into my bag and she sobers up.
"Oh nothing. Just hoping Ms.Warner can help guide you towards something better to wear tomorrow." Aubrey sneers, giving me a once over.
I internally roll my eyes before picking up my bag and making my way out of the classroom. The trip to guidance was quite short. It wasn't that far from Mr.Hoffman's room. I probably haven't been to Ms.Warner's room since sophomore year. She switched most of my classes that year and over half of them I ended up having with Ethan. I pulled at the sleeves of my shirt in hopes that wouldn't happen this time.
Walking into the room, which last time I had been in was orange, was now painted a deep maroon color and was decorated with the same stuff from two years ago. Ms.Warner sat down in-front of her desk, her jet black hair tied up in bun, glasses perched up on her nose, and her large oversized sweater hanging from her body. She smiled warmly at me noticing my presence in her office.
"Hey Grace." She greets me.
"Hi." I reply softly.
"Now," she continues, shuffling around some papers on her desk, "I know it's a bit far in the school year and it might seem a bit too late to be switching schedules but thats whats happening today. See, a few classes are a bit cramped right now so I have to move some of you kids out into the classes that don't have enough."
A feeling of dread fills my body as I await my new schedule.
"Don't worry though hun, most of your classes are still the same I only changed two." She smiles, handing me the sheet of paper.
I look over it, frowning when I see that my class after lunch is still the same meaning I still have to see Logan. Only my physics class and math class had switched periods.
"Oh, well, thank you." I say. "Is that all or?"
"Unless you have anything you want to talk about then yep thats it." She says.
I nod my head no to which she gives a small smile at before she waves me off. I step out of the room and head back to English, folding the paper in my hands on the way there. Suddenly I'm knocked down by a large figure. I prepare to feel the impact of the cold tiled floors but it never comes. Instead a pair of rough hands grip my waist and keep me from falling.
My head shoots up and my fingers grip the paper in my palm tighter. My eyes flutter as I look up to find Finn frowning slightly. He looked intimidating as ever. His raven locks were messy and his nose was slightly red from the cold weather outside.
"You alright?" He asks me.
"I-Uh." I choke on my words, not knowing what to say. Did I really want to say anything? Finn raises an eyebrow at me and waits for me to respond.
"Fine. I'm fine." He nods at me before letting go of my waist. "W-Well, I have to g-get back-"
"Wait." He murmurs. "I kinda got something I want to talk to you about." My heart pounds against my chest when he grabs my wrist and leads me in a different direction.
"Can't we do this a-another time?" I question. He stops and whips around, grabbing my shoulders in the process. His pulls close to him and a serious look crosses his face.
"I know Aly asked you about that party." My eyebrows raise in confusion. I shake my head slowly. He scoffs in response.
"I know she did. You can act like you don't know what Im talking about but I know she wants you to go with her." Finn says. The memory of Alyssa asking about a Halloween party suddenly pops into my head.
"I don't want her going. Talk her out of it." It was clear Finn was protective of his sister, it was just too bad Alyssa was stubborn as hell. I remember her begging me to go, not to mention she was still on the topic.
"Finn.. I dont-"
"Please." He begs. My shoulders slump and he lets out a sigh. "Grace, c'mon. You're her best friend if anything. She'll listen to you." I take his moment of frustration to slip out of his hands, taking a couple steps away from him. He looks up at me, and it comes to me that he probably already warned her not to go. He thinks were best friends? We aren't that close, Alyssa and I.
"I don't think that." I say softly, shaking my head. "B-Besides, I don't w-wanna go to any party. It's really up to her. If she really wants to go." I take a few more steps back, trying to make an exit from this conversation.
"No. Grace." He walks forward towards me, reaching out for my wrist. I pull my arms behind my back quickly trying to avoid more contact. Curiosity tickles the inside of my throat, making its way out of my mouth.
"What's so wrong with her going to a p-party anyways?" Finn scoffs again, rolling his eyes at my question.
"That's my little sister. She's too innocent for shit like that. Can you even imagine how many guys would try to get in her pants and then throw her away like nothing right after?" He snaps.
It's my turn to scoff, on the inside of course. Finn was such a hypocrite. Protective over his sister just because he's afraid of some guy treating her the way he treats girls himself. I shake my head again but he abruptly stops me, placing his hands on the side of my head.
"Listen-" He's cut off by the sound of the bell blaring through the halls, freeing students of their first period class. My body twists out of his hold, trying to escape before someone sees us. The loud noise of students escaping the classrooms came into play and his hands loosened. I quickly take the chance to jump out of his grip and quickly walk away from him.
"Hey!" He shouts. "Grace!" A few girls who just exited class stop walking to look at me and notice Finn yelling my way. My feet speed up, the ache from earlier returning but I don't miss the comments that leaves the group of girls lips.
"She's such a nobody how did she even get his attention." One girl says bitterly. Her friends mumble an 'mhmm' in agreement but I ignore it. As if I could ever get anyone's attention. Nobody wanted me.
I'm so sorry this chapter is so boring and wasn't really worth the wait but I'm trying to write as best I can and school has been overwhelming me lately. I'll really try to update more frequently! I promise you the next few chapters will be a lot more interesting ;)
