After school, I wasn't in the mood to do anything but sleep. My body was completely drained.
When I walked in the house, Lisa was in the kitchen with Mason. I walked in to smell the sweet scent of seasoned chicken. She was frying up chicken, boiling water for mashed potatoes, putting on a skillet for green beans and had already put the biscuits in the oven. My stomach growled at the smell. I knew the food was probably loaded in calories but my body ached for it. I was starving.
"Cam!" Mason yelled, running to hug me.
I smiled, scooping him into my arms. His curly hair was wet and he was still wrapped in a towel.
"Hey boo, you missed me?" I asked, picking him up.
He nodded. "I took a shower today." He told me.
"You can't grow up on me so fast Mason." I laughed pinching his cheek.
He bounced in my arms. "Are we watching the movie now?" He asked me.
"I'm really exhausted right now Mason, I promise we'll watch it tonight." I said looking into his brown eyes that matched mine.
"Okay." He said to me.
I smiled, kissing his forehead before putting him down.
"Hey you." Lisa said to me as I sat at the table.
"Hey." I smiled , kicking off my Jordan's.
"So, we got new neighbors today and I couldn't help but notice it's quite a few kids." She said to me.
I agreed. "Yeah I saw, this is not going to be fun." I laughed.
She shrugged as she cooked. "I don't know, I was thinking about inviting them over for dinner. Welcome them into the neighborhood." She said looking over at me.
I raised my eyebrows. "And why would you do that?" I laughed.
"Because Mason's getting older and he's getting lonely. Maybe he can play with their kids." She suggested.
"We don't even know them, they can be bullies and take advantage of him." I argued.
"Are you going to take time out of your busy life to play with him?" She asked me putting her hand on her hip.
Once again, we were having this talk.
I shrugged. "Maybe the dinner will work, but you should let them get settled in first." I told her.
"I'll give them time over the weekend to settle in. We'll do it next week and don't worry, you will be here." She told me.
I rolled my eyes and let out a deep breath.
"Hungry?" She asked smiling.
I nodded. "I haven't eaten all day." I told her.
"Go clean yourself up and then come to eat. We can talk more about this over dinner." She told me.
That didn't sound good at all. I avoided going to eat for as long as I possibly could. I didn't want anything to do with our new neighbors.
Thankfully Jade came over, so I had an excuse to miss dinner. Jade was actually serious about wearing my clothes to the party.
"So what you looking for?" I asked her as she plopped down on my bed.
