I woke up at 5 in the morning, about an hour earlier than I needed to. Malibu Beach starts an hour later than my old school, so I was already used to it.

Since I had an extra hour to spare, I put on some running stuff and took off.

I wasn't even going fast, so I was shocked when I ran into something and fell down... In a mud puddle.

"Oh crap."

"I mean, that's what you look like right now, but that's not very polite language for a lady as attractive as you are."

I froze. That was definitely a guy's voice. I slowly looked up and it took every ounce of me to keep my jaw from falling to the ground.

The asshole who just said I looked like crap extended a hand to help me up. I almost grabbed it, but then remembered my wrists were showing. Ignoring his hand, I got up off the street and actually looked at this god of a boy.

Me standing at 5'3 was nothing compared to this massive guy. Shaggy brown hair that looked like he just rolled out of bed. Running shorts hanging low on his hips, and his beautiful abs.

I subconsciously licked my too-dry lips.

"Glad I could help." He mumbled sarcastically, but then added a smirk. "You done there, love? I mean, I know I'm attractive, but we just met." He moved closer to me and whispered in my ear, "I wouldn't mind going slower, but I'm always available for the faster movement too."

I backed away and laughed. "Okay. Sure buddy. I'm gonna go now." Now this guy was starting to creep me out. I wanted to get away before he could possibly call any of his pals over.

"Wait!" He caught up to me in no time. While we were both still running, he stuck out his hand, "I'm Derek. I haven't seen you around here before, are you new? Of course you're new, I know everyone here. Hey! I never got your name!" While he was ranting, I started running a little faster. But I wasn't going fast enough that he couldn't catch up.

"That's because I never gave it to you." I rolled my eyes. Guys are all the same- idiotic and dumb.

"Well than what is it? You're really gonna leave me hanging like that? Shady, man."

I started laughing. "Alright fine. I'm Melissa but now I'm going to be late. So maybe I'll see you around? Bye Derek!" And with that, I sped home so fast that he had no chance of catching up.

I got home 15 minutes later than I was expecting. As I walked through the front door, Hillary was waiting for me.

"You never run in the mornings before school, got that? Accidents happen all the time! And you look like shit right now. Go up and shower and I'll pick out an outfit for you to wear." She was practically hissing at me.

Why is she being so pissy? It was just a run. I knew I was gonna be back in time.

Kinda.

As soon as I got out of the shower, Hillary was in my room. She was way more excited for this than I was.

She quickly blew my hair dry and straightened it perfectly. I went to my bed and it was the same outfit I wore for my first day at Malibu.

Laughing at this, I quickly put on the dress and heels, and walked downstairs, grabbing a protein bar. Before I knew it, I was being pushed out the door and into Hillary's pink mustang.

So typical, I know.

We got to the school in less than 5 minutes, and I was nervous the entire time. And that's saying a lot. Because it takes some weird crap to make me nervous. But then again, who isn't nervous for their first day of school as the new girl?
