"Baby, just please be careful today." Adam begs as I put my gun in a purse.
I zip the purse shut and put it over my shoulder. "I'm going to be fine, Adam. You need to stop worrying so much. I'm being pulled up just to go under cover. It's a great thing for me."
He looks at me and runs a hand through his hair. "I know I shouldn't worry, but I do. What if something goes sideways? What am I going to do?"
"How do you think I feel everyday you clock in?" I raise my voice at him. I'm starting to get annoyed by his double standards. "You can go undercover whenever you need to but as soon as I do, all hell breaks loose? I've gone under cover before already. It's just the same thing. Alright?" I snap.
His eyes widen with hurt. It makes me feel guilty, but he needs to understand that I'm able to take care of myself.
"Of course. You're right. I'm sorry, I just love you so much and I can't imagine losing you." He explains to me.
I wrap him into a hug. "I love you." Is all I can think to say.
"I love you too." He whispers and kisses my cheek.
"We need to get upstairs before we're late." I say quickly then walk around him and up to the Intelligence Unit.
We get upstairs and everyone is there. I see Arbor and I can't believe it was her. She is dressed in a black skirt and her eyes aren't green anymore. They are a deep, ocean blue color. Her makeup is totally different too. Now her cheekbones are highlighted with pink blush and her hair is just past her shoulders and burgundy. It's mouused and curly looking too. She definetly did great with making herself look completely different.
I walk towards everyone. They're all standing in front of the board talking about something.
I'm dressed in a dark navy dress that clings to my body with black heels and a black cardigan. My hair is pin straight and my makeup is light, like always.
"Alright, now that everyone's here, lets go." Voight says as he sees that Adam and I are now there.
I nod at Alexander and the girl she's brought over from a homicide unit.
Adam said they worked together at the 17th before it got shut down, so this girl knows everything about this killer too.
We all turn and walk out of the room. I ride to the school with Arbor and April.
"So what class are you teaching?" Arbor asks me while she makes eye contact with me through the review mirror. She's driving, April is in the passenger side and I'm in the back seat.
"English Literature." I answer right away. "Figures that the one class I always hated in school I end up teaching undercover."
Arbor laughs at my joke. "I'm teaching the American Sign Language One class."
"Woah." I say. "Thats cool. Do you know Sign Language?"
Arbor nods proudly. "My dad was deaf. It's like my native language."
"That's so cool! At least you're not going into something you barely know anything about." I comment. "I'm so nervous about this English LIt class."
"Don't be nervous, Rookie." April chimes in, sounding like a complete ass. "You'll get it when you learn how going undercover really works."
"Stop it, April." Arbor warns. "Burgess has already gone under cover and is the best patrol man the 21st has. You should hear the guys in Intelligence talk her up."
"That's only 'cause she's fucking one of them." April says smugly. She's acting like I'm not even here and it's pissing me off.
"Okay, Detective." I snap from the back. "That doesn't mean shit. I was offered a spot in Intelligence and I declined it. My relationship with Ruzek doesn't effect my work at all, so please mind your own damn business." I tell her in a bitchy, sarcastic tone.
