I threw the controller down onto the coffee table. What was I doing? I'd been here for weeks and it wasn't even my house.
I probably should go home and set up my screen. It had arrived a week or so ago, but I hadn't used it yet. Why?
I groaned, I hadn't set up the screen because of Alexandria. I wanted to see her. There was something about her that drew me in and now, after what had happened, I didn't want to leave her alone.
I was a fucking idiot. What was I thinking? The last thing Alexandria wanted in her life was another man, but the more time I spent with her, the harder I fell. Alexandria wasn't interested in me. Alexandria wasn't interested in anybody and I was wasting my time on her, I really was.
"Fuck." I said standing up, only I wasn't wasting my time, at least I didn't think so anyway.
We could only be friends and it was something I had to deal with and who knows what might happen in the future.
Besides I couldn't leave, I'd promised Lola I'd stay, and if I did leave, I'd only worry about Alex the whole time.
Speaking of Alex, she was late, I'd thought she'd be home by now and it worried me a little. It worried me that he might do something. That prick, that asshole who had treated her that way, done those things to her, ruined it for Alex and ruined it for someone like me who would treat Alexandria the way she was meant to be treated.
I was just considering calling her when I heard the door open. I quickly sat back down. I wanted to go say hi but I didn't want her to feel like I was crowding her.
I listened as she walked in and I heard her put her bag down, then I heard something else and I sat very still listening.
She sniffled again and I stood up. She was crying.
"Hey." I said quietly, walking out to the kitchen. "Is everything okay?"
She looked at me, wiping her eye's and shaking her head.
I felt my chest tighten. If that prick had been near her I'd fucking kill him.
"What happened?" I asked her, walking over to her.
"Bad day at work." And as she said she burst into tears again.
I reached out to her, then quickly pulled my hand back. "What happened?"
She put her hand over her face. "I don't know." She cried. "She was fine and the baby was fine, and then she just went into cardiac arrest and she was dead."
I stood there looking at her and she sobbed loudly.
Oh fuck it and I reached out, pulling her to my chest. "I'm sorry Alexandria."
She shook her head, burying her face in my chest and I gently put my arms around, letting her cry, it felt so nice, like she belonged in my arm's.
"I can't do it anymore." She cried. "I need a break."
She nodded. "Everything is just too much."
"Take a little time off, god Alex, you need to rest."
"I did." She whispered. "I've taken six weeks off and I also...." Suddenly she stopped, pulling away from me.
"What?" I asked, begrudgingly letting her go.
"I made an appointment to see a therapist."
"That's good, you need that." I told her, trying to sound encouraging.
She nodded, wiping her face. "I told them Tuesday."
"Tuesday is good." I murmured.
"Yes." She said, smiling a little. "I promised I'd come to the studio tomorrow."
"You did." I told her, then I took a deep breath. "And I'd really like it if you came."
"I will Matt." She told me.
I smiled. "Coffee?" I asked her. "Maybe pizza for dinner?"
"Your screen still not here?" She asked.
I shook my head. "No, can you believe it."
"Ridiculous." She said.
I walked over, grabbing a couple of cups.
"Matt." She said softly.
I turned around, looking at her.
"Thankyou." She whispered. "For everything."
"It's my pleasure Alex, honestly," I told her, looking at her.
Yeah it was my pleasure, my everything at the moment, because as I stood there looking at her I realised that she was all I could think about, she was consuming me, but in a good way.
Fuck I did not need this. I did not need to fall in love with someone who was incapable of loving me back.
