Arisa pov:
The cold, hard surface in contact with my cheek was unmistakable as I woke. My neck hurt and so did my head. Opening my eyes with a groan, I saw the cemented flooring on which I was lying.
Any attempt to move was thwarted by the ropes tied around my wrists and ankles. I managed to sit up though, flexing my jaw at the tingling numbness left behind because of the cold floor.
"Finally awake? Took you long enough," I heard Greed speak. I met his eyes before glancing at the four other people standing around me. Greed was quick to come to me and crouch in front of me to grab my jaw and make me look at him. I narrowed my eyes but he only grinned wider. "I like those eyes! You're an interesting human, not scared even through you're surrounded by five kidnappers."
"Why should I be? You said that you wanted my help so you won't hurt me, at least for the time being. And since you heard my conversation with Dante, you should know that I'm not afraid of torture or getting my ass whooped here."
"True, and I heard you offer your friendship to Envy too. Does that mean you'll offer your friendship to me as well?" he asked, letting go of me and cocking his head to the side in curiosity.
"It depends on what you plan to do with my friendship. I will refuse if you ask for something crazy," I answered.
"I really like you! You've got spunk!" Chuckling, he looked at his comrades. "So, everyone, this here is Arisa, a State Alchemist. She's sixteen years old even though she does look sort of like a midget."
My brow twitched at his words – being called short was one thing but calling me a midget? I wasn't that small...well, maybe I was when compared to him since he was so tall and towered over me.
"Introduce yourselves to her. We should make her feel welcome. Oh, and trusting that you won't try to run away, I'll untie you. How does that sound?"
I sufficed with a nod, agreeing to his condition. If I didn't have to fight, it was less trouble for me. He did seem to be rational enough so I could just hear him out, refuse to do what he wanted me to and be on my merry way after that was done. I doubt escaping would be easy though, but I was sure I could manage something with my skills.
The woman who was standing a little away came to untie me. As she did so, she introduced herself, "My name is Martel. Snake Chimera."
Chimera? Wait, this woman was a Chimera? She didn't look like one, at least not like the lot I had seen in Krystal's underground room. I narrowed my eyes as she stepped away from me.
"I'm Bido, Lizard Chimera."
"Roa, Bull Chimera."
"Dolcetto, Dog Chimera."
Rubbing my slightly red wrists eased the pain in them but my concentration was far from that. Looking between the four who had introduced themselves, I said, "You're all Chimera? Perfect Chimera?"
"Of course! What else do we look like to you, brat?" retorted Martel with a scoff. She didn't seem happy about the fact that she was a Chimera. Well, I suppose anyone would hate being experimented on and being combined with an animal and then being treated as a freak by the rest of the world.
"It's the first time I have seen or met a perfect Chimera. Who created you?" I asked. It could not be possible that Krystal had turned up here, could it? He was aiming to create a perfect human-animal chimera but from what he had told me before I was sent to this world, he was still in the process of creating a perfect Chimera. I had seen creatures in his lab that could talk and understand humans, but they didn't look human like these guys.
