Tick
Tock
My eyes burst open. I kept my breathing shallow and kept as still as possible under the musty blankets.
Tick
Tock
Where the heck am I? The last thing I could remember was collapsing in the alleyway last night. Sh*t I haven't been found out have I? My heart started racing even more. If I have been found out then I'm most certainly going to be killed.
Tick
Tock
The clock- wherever it was- kept ticking. I slowly rolled over to take a glance at my surroundings. From what I could tell, the room was mostly greys and blacks. Black wardrobe, black dresser, black window panes. Grey walls, grey floors, grey bed sheets. The only coloured thing that I could tell was a single red carnation laid on the dresser.
I could hear no noise anywhere apart from the clock and my own heartbeat. It was eerily silent otherwise. The gaps between ticks and heartbeats were left in suspense.
I could just about make out a window to my left, covered with a heavy black embroidered curtain. Sunlight slipped in at the edges of it.
I heard a small snore from somewhere within the room. My heart jumped to my throat and hammered as if someone was in there trying to get out. I had assumed I was here alone but there was at least one other person in the room. I almost let out a whimper of terror.
I scanned the room in the darkness to locate the other person. I spotted them in a rocking chair on the far side of the room. I could just make out a medium build, masculine figure slumped over, heavy in sleep. They too were wearing black clothes- a black long sleeved top with black tracksuit trousers on. Contrasting their look, they had mid-length wavy dirty blonde hair. I lay staring at them for a while to check they were still asleep before making plans to escape.
The trouble is I have no clue where I am. Sunlight streamed brighter into the room and I knew I would have to make my move soon to lessen my risk of being caught.
I summed up my options; the window seemed the best place to escape from, as long as I wasn't too far up the building. The only other option would be to explore where the door lead to . I assumed it lead into the building, in which case I could be risking myself being seen.
I slowly slid out of the bed and my feet sank into the soft carpet. I looked down at my self noticing I still had the same clothes I had on last night- minus my shoes. I quickly scanned around for them but they were no where to be seen. Seems I'll have to go shoeless. Great.
I tread carefully towards the window, stopping to check the sleeping figure in the corner every so often. Trying to walk two metres to the window was turning out to be very hard. My foot pressed down on where I was going to stand before I stood on it, to make sure the floorboards below didn't give in and creak, giving myself away.
After a few painfully slow minutes I had reached the curtained window. I peered through a gap in the curtain and mentally planned my escape route. It seemed to be that I was three storeys high. An easy challenge. The ground below was concrete with weeds escaping through the gaps. Beyond that was a high brick wall, and even further on was a neglected street. Houses boarded up, beer cans, takeaway boxes and cigarette packets littered the street. Graffiti marked nearly every house. I would have to escape via the road. The whole place was deathly quiet and there was no sign of habitation.
Wasting no more time I slipped behind the curtain and pulled back the black net which also covered it. I searched for the hatch and tugged at it softly so it wouldn't make a noise. Slowly but carefully I eased open the window, making very little noise. A gust of wind blew which slammed the window against the wall of the house making a massive noise.
