It was dark.

Everywhere around me, only cold darkness surrounded me.

My heart thudded loudly in my chest as breathed in sharply, turning around in a circle hoping to find some clue as to where I was.

"Come on Mizu-chan!"

I turned around so quickly I stumbled awkwardly. That voice... I knew it like no other, all warm with a rough edge. Natsu.

But I still couldn't see.

"Natsu?" My voice was scratchy from fear.

"Come on, this way!"

This time a feminine voice echoed around the area.

"Lucy?" Desperately I kept turning around in circles. "Where are you?!"

A soft youthful laugh sounded next.

"Wendy?"

I woke up gasping for air, sheets tangled around my legs uncomfortably. I glared up at the unfamiliar ceiling, moisture prickling my eyes. I hastily wiped the tears away before they could fall because I was stronger than this.

Somehow, even though I rationally knew it was stupid, I still hoped I would be back home in the guildhall every time I  opened my eyes. That all of this was one elaborate nightmare.

But it wasn't a dream. No, this was real. I was stuck in a strange village, an unknown distance away from Magnolia, hell they didn't even have magic in this place, only 'ninjas'. My friends weren't here. Natsu, Wendy and Lucy wouldn't have left me alone here. Right? So why was I here?

After several minutes, I finally fell back in a fitful slumber.

This time I woke up to someone gently shaking me awake.

"Go away, let me sleep." I muttered into my pillow, entirely too exhausted to want to wake up.

"Come on you have to wake up or you'll be late at the academy on your first day."

My eyes shot open at the somewhat unfamiliar voice, only to see Kakashi leaning over me, still seeming half asleep himself. His brow quirked inquisitively as he observed how my eyes darted around the room, orienting myself.

Sighing I got up as Kakashi went downstairs to make us some breakfast. I quickly got ready in the small bathroom just across the hall as the delicious scent of toasted bread wafted towards me, making my stomach growl hungrily.

I unceremoniously plopped down on a kitchen chair, swiftly buttering some toast. I was surprisingly hungry after all of the previous days shenanigans. Sparing a glance up at Kakashi, who had taken the seat across from me, I saw he was engrossed in some kind of book, clearly not looking for conversation.

With not much else to do, I resumed reading the book I had started on yesterday. Scanning through the pages for anything that seemed like it could be useful during my time here.

The silence was surprisingly calming.

I looked up at the sound of a book closing softly to see Kakashi rising from his seat.

"It's time for school."

I nodded agreeably, getting up as well. Giving me a once over, he gently but firmly grabbed hold of my shoulder before teleporting us out in front of a building swarming with kids.

"Here."  I took the packed lunch box he reached out to me lazily. "Have fun on your first day."

Kakashi waved lazily before disappearing in a small puff of smoke.
