Chapter One

Bright rays of sunlight greeted Jewel as she opened her eyes. It took her a few minutes before reality sank in her mind along with a really bad headache.

Last night, she partied like there was no tomorrow with her colleagues. It was her first time--drinking and going to a club. So her senior introduced her to some of his circle of friends. Fresh from grad school, she was thrilled to celebrate her life as an adult. It was also an excuse to forget about the heartbreaking news she received earlier.

Most of them welcomed her warmly and started giving her drinks one over the other. Soon, she had too much and everything started swerving. Her senior had volunteered to accompany her outside and then--

She gasped, quickly becoming too aware of her surroundings. It was an unfamiliar environment along with the heavy pillows against her stomach and legs. She never had pillows that warm and heavy. She reached out to her stomach and stifled a gasp as she realized that they weren't pillows draped over her but parts of a human being.

She slowly tried to squirm away from the stranger, hoping not to wake him up. She tried to process how she had gotten herself in that predicament. She replaced herself with a pillow after extracting herself from him.

Once freed, she quickly stumbled away from the bed in search for her clothes. Slowly, memories of last night came crashing down on her like an avalanche.

Her senior had helped her out of the club. But then instead of giving her some fresh air, he hauled her to a dark alley and tried harassing her. She weakly pushed him away. She started yelling for help but he covered her mouth with his hand.

Jewel realized how pathetic it was of her trusting others so easily. She was going to be raped because her alcohol-induced state and her stupidity.

Then when her senior noticed that she stopped thrashing, he smirked at her. "Don't worry babe you're in good hands. I've always noticed the mixed signs you've been giving me since you started, I'm tired of you playing hard to get."

She glared at him and bit his hand angrily. True, she used to like him. He seemed approachable and reliable when she started her job. But she heard rumors about him, and his escapades. She didn't longed to be strung along with his office affair. He shouted in pain and then slapped her in reflex. He started yelling profanities and aimed to punch her in her face.

She braced herself for the impact but it never came. She opened her eyes and realized someone had intervened.

She stepped back from the two men to get a better look at her savior. The guy was big, a good six feet, his shoulders were wide enough to shield her from her attacker. Smooth black hair, dark grey eyes, and a lean, hard face with the shadow of a beard adding a hint of roughness. He wore tailored black slacks and a white pristine shirt that outlined hard muscles underneath.

"What the f*ck is your problem?!" Her abuser shouted. Blood was trickling down his chin from where the new guy had punched him.

"Forcing and abusing a woman is the worst way to treat a lady. One punch isn't enough for you to atone for your attitude." Her savior's voice was deep and dark as the alley behind her.

"Hey! She was asking for it."

The man's dark grey eyes glanced at her. His gaze assessing her reaction. "Is he telling the truth?"

She shook her head. "N-no. I just wanted to get some air. I n-never wanted..." Her shoulders trembled in fear.

Anger dawned on the man's face making her attacker scamper in fear. She sighed in relief when her attacker ran away in cowardice, giving up without a fight.

Her savior turned to her and frowned. He touched her face where she was slapped and said "How impetuous. You should stray away from abusive men like those."

Jewel shivered. His touch ignited a small flame warming her body. She had never been attracted to the opposite sex. She wasn't bisexual but no man had ever gotten her attention except him. Desire gnawed her body, overloading her senses, and making her mind crazed. She ached to threw herself at his body. At the same time fought the temptation to act at her silly whim to indulge in her lustful thoughts.

His dark eyes were intent on her face, as if he could read her reactions as easily as reading books. She felt a telltale redness rise in her cheeks.

"But then again, no man can ignore and not be attracted to a beauty like yours." His lips quirked and his fore finger traveled to brush a stray of her shriveled hair away from her face. "Tell me, why did an angel like you fall down from heaven? Was it to seduce me?"

Jewel's embarrassment faded into a frown. She should have known that all men possessed arrogance. It was always a part of their genes.

She lifted her hand to slap him. But he easily caught her hand in the air, before placing it close to his lips. Jewel felt her body grow warm. Her skin tingled in response as his warm lips touched the back of her hand.

He was looking down at her with such an impressed, amused and fascinated that she... Well, she didn't know what to do with herself.

"I hate to dent your ego but not every woman falls for such cheesy pick-up line." She said in defiance and pulled her hand away from his grasp.

But like iron, he held on to her hand. He grinned in her direction, and she sucked in a breath. The man was sexy when he was stern, even the danger that surrounded him allured her, but when he smiled? God. She could have sworn her girl parts had just given a squeal of delight in response.

"I don't mind it moy angel. After all, you're not just any woman." He said in a low, husky voice.

Jewel gave him a challenging look. She wasn't afraid of him.

Yet as he reached out to her, cupped the side of her neck, and she felt him subtly draw her closer toward him. She felt helpless to pull away, fascinated by those dark eyes, and when her breast brushed against his chest, she gasped.

"For what it's worth..." He leaned down and stared at her deep blue eyes. Hunger, so blatantly obvious, radiated from him. She felt like a deer in the headlights and dropped her gaze to the mouth that was merely inches from her own. "I don't mind being tempted by an angel like you."

His mouth lowered on hers. She hadn't expected to be kissed by such blatant intensity. He pulled her against him, not allowing any part of their body a space in between. His mouth was firm against her own, and he tasted sweet and tangy, like wine. His tongue flickered against her lips, urging her to open for him, and she was helpless to resist.

Jewel grew red with embarrassment as soon as she remembered what happened after that. She looked at the man sprayed on the messy bed covered with sheets. The duvet scarcely covering his magnificent body. The same body that pleasured her through the night.

She fanned herself from the heated thoughts. She tried to compose herself and ignore the soreness in between her thighs. She quickly picked up her clothes and dressed herself with the clothes she worn last night. She slowly opened the door and glanced at the bed, praying that the creak of the polished wood did not awakened him. She took one long glimpse at him.

No one would be able to compete with him, he had set the bar too high. Regrettably, she didn't think their paths would cross ever again.

Especially since a few months from now, her life would changed. She closed the door, along with the amazing memories she would forever treasure.
