"SHAWN! SHAWN! SHAWN!"
The crowd chants my name. I run through my pre-show rituals, which included singing Drunk by Ed. "I wanna be drunk when I wake up on the right side of the wrong bed." I shook out my hands. I always get nervous before my shows. My stage manager held up a 2 signaling I had 2 minutes before I go to perform. I was doing some breathing exercises when Gerty came up to me. "Ok you know the drill. Something big, strings, the weight..." after that I zoned out. I have already done this 20 times before. I know the set list by heart.
All of a sudden Andrew slapped my arm, "Shawn! pay attention!"
My stage manager came and pulled my arm. "Shawn, you are on."
Well actually I'm not. That just means they are starting the video. The venue gets dark and the screaming begins. Life of the party comes on the screen and the crowd goes crazy. The video is about 3 minutes long and as soon as it is over I go out. There were a few moments where it was quiet but then the old me came on the screen and everyone screamed at the top of their lungs. It finished and the screen rolled up. I put my ear pieces in and walked on stage. The crowd went wild. I started playing Something Big. The crowd started singing along. I looked down and smiled. "they always do that. I love it." I talked briefly in between the pieces and the crowd never let up. They screamed and sang along the whole time. I ended the first part and went back stage. Andrew came by for a second and said "You killed it out there. Go do it again."
I smiled at him. He always says the same thing. "Good job. Go do it again."
I took a sip of water and went back out on the stage. The girls went wild. I realized I accidentally brought my water bottle out there with me. Oops. I set it down on the stage and chuckled. I said "That was wrong of me to do that. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. Let me make it up to you." I started singing Life of the party. Everyone started singing/screaming it. Of course everyone knows it since it was my first single. They were singing so loud I could barely hear myself singing. I finished and said "Thank you, St. Louis. Have a safe night!"
I ran off stage and handed my guitar to a guy. The crew started take down. I peeked out the curtain and saw everyone leaving. Most of them just had the best time of their lives. Some people came by and slapped my hot, sweaty back and said good job and congrats. I reached for my water and realized it was on stage. I walked out and heard a girl gasp. I turned around and smiled. I picked up my water bottle and looked around. She was the only one left. I got this idea. I started walking toward her and John said "Shawn."
I turned around and said "Its okay. Just stay close by."
I walked over to her but she was on her phone. I coughed and she looked up. Her eyes widened and mouth dropped. I said "Hi. I'm Shawn." I let out a small laugh. "And your name is...?"
"Nice to meet you." She is adorable. I think she is my age. Maybe 16 or 17.
She looked a little worried. "Is everything alright?"
"Not really. My mom is supposed to pick me up at 11. It's 9:45 now. I thought you would go longer." She gave me a small smile. "But you were really good."
"Thanks. Do you want to hang out in my RV for a little bit while we wait for your mom?"
Her mouth dropped again. "Uhhhhhhhhhh yes?"
"Ok. Well..." A thought popped into my head. What about the people by the tour bus? Don't want to get the rumors starting yet. I turned around and saw John. I yelled "John! Can you go get a security guard please?"
"Do I need to escort her out?" he replied.
I laughed "No. I need you to escort me to the RV. Have the RV drive a few blocks and come back here so..." I turned back around "Alyssa right?" she nodded her head. "So Alyssa can hang out with me for awhile."
"Yeah give me a second. Behave." He walked away.
I turned around and smirked. "Never... Do you want to see what it is like on stage?"
"Sure." She had a real big smile on her face. "Can I get a picture with you?"
Normally I was hesitant with pictures. They always turn dirty but I have a feeling she wouldn't do that.
I nodded. "Of course! I'll take it for you."
I held out my hand and she put her phone in it. I held it up and she smiled. I did a duck face. Then I took another one with a peace sign. "Is that good?"
She nodded again.
"Alright lets go on stage." I held my hand out to her.
She reluctantly grabbed it. Weird. Most people would die to hold my hand. I lead her to the stage and we took center. She looked at me and said "Can we do a duet real quick?"
"Sure. What song would you like to sing?"
"Stitches. Can I start? I can't harmonize but I feel like you can."
Huh. I've never tried to sing stitches with a girl before. "Okay. Let's see how this works."
She started singing. "I thought that I've been hurt before but no one's ever left me quite this sore."
I stared at her. Damn. She is amazing. I joined in. "Your words cut deeper than a knife. Now I need someone to breathe me back to life. gotta feeling that I'm going under but I know that I'll make it out alive. If I quit calling you my lover move on." I dropped out and let her go.
She sung "You watch me bleed until I cant breathe. Im shaking falling onto my knees."
I came back in. "And now that Im without your kisses, I'll be needing stitches."
"Alright Shawn it is time. Alyssa here is Luke. We will be back In ten." John stated.
