As the police milled around the house and all over the front lawn........
......Detective Green, who was notorious for noticing everything, looked across the street and saw heavy drapery moving in the window.
Opening slightly again.
He summoned a female detective over to him.
"Take a walk with me."
"Sure!" She smiled. Delighted. Always wanting more than just a walk with her superior. Even though it was never going to happen in this lifetime.
"Where're we goin'? You finally taking me out on a date?"
He smiled empathetically. He knew she had feelings for him but what could he do?
"For starters let's go visit Mrs. Kravits across the street here."
They walked up the path to the front door casually not to panic the person inside.
Knocked using the big lions head door knocker.
Watching the curtains move open slightly and close a couple of times.
Finally the heavy wooden door creaked open.
"Yes?" Said a frail squeak of a voice.
There stood a tiny old lady with snow white hair.
"No! I don't want any of your magazines today thank you."
The two detectives smiled at each other.
"No Ma'am, we are not Jehovah's Witnesses... we are from the police department."
"Ohhhh, I see."
"May we come in?"
"I suppose that would be alright." Said with trepidation and a bit shaky.
