Imaginary Friend

I'll tell you a story,

my best friend, he died today.

He was only twenty two.

Who was to blame,

was it me or was it you?

No one possibly has a clue.

***

Came to meet me,

even though he's long gone.

Says he feels all alone.

But,

what could I possibly do.

***

We walk down this desolate road,

which eventually leads nowhere.

But only because he insists,

for him solitude is bliss.

We take a boat, flow upstream.

Towards the end of ways,

on and on till the end of days,

this land is strange and limitless.

***

The journey ends, we reach the shore.

"Oh brother, I'm almost there.

I'll take it on from here.

Don't you fear, everything's fair and clear."

Burning tears,

souls weeping at sundown.

Slowly he departs,

disappearing among the stars.

***

He was my only friend,

But now that he's not here,

my mind feels empty.

I light up a candle,

in his beloved memory.

As the world ridicules me,

"Dude, what are you looking at in a mirror?"

They laugh at me, thinking I'm crazy.

Into the flames I find his smiling face,

"Don't you worry my friend.

Even though I'm dead,

I'll always be there,

in your head!"
