Epilogue

The dark brown buildings before us seemed to rise right up and into the clouds. I suppose that was what you got when you went to new school. It was the beginning of a school year, hundreds of new kids entering through the scary gates of high school, even more actually returning from summer break. But no one seemed to greeting each other, they all seemed to be staring at the front entrance, right where we Cullen kids were standing. It was an unusual feeling to be associated with the open-mouthed gawking, but at the same time it was good, I was finally a Cullen, someone these people would want to be exactly like, one they would constantly dream about.

It brought back memories of when I had first seen the Cullen’s, clustered around the cafeteria table, not eating anything. The memories were slightly hazy but as they were important, I could remember them fairly well. I remembered the looks Edward used to give me, tempted by the smell of my human blood. I remembered (in less detail) some of the other boys, such as Mike, who had fantasised over me, but I had ignored them, my eyes had only been set for Edward. And eventually I had gotten him.

“So, Bella,” Renesmee said quietly, testing out my first name; after all she couldn’t be calling me mum in school! “What’s next?”

“You have the choice of making human friends, or you can stick with us. Sorry, Ness, but I doubt it can really be both of them.” Rosalie said rolling her eyes at the sound of hanging around with humans. If it weren’t for the fact she had to fit in with the world, she wanted be having this high school experience again. In fact, I probably wouldn’t be either. I didn’t like high school and the thought of having to do the same work over and over again for the rest of my life sounded boring.

“Well, see ya.” Renesmee laughed and skipped inside, immediately walking up to another Freshman girl and starting a conversation. Something told me she would do just fine.

“Jasper, its fine. We have done this before, we’ll get through this!” Alice was trying to calm Jasper down who had suddenly clammed up at the smell of all this fresh blood around. It was a fairly large school, a thousand kids or so, much larger than our old school in Forks. They slowly moved into the building.

Emmett had bounded off to the football field already looking at the guys he could arm-wrestle and win against! Rosalie decided to go after him, to remind him that he shouldn’t meddle with the humans.

It left Edward and I alone, all the stares directed straight at us. I grabbed for his hand and he pulled me in for a quick kiss on the lips. I probably would have blushed if I had been human, I would never have made such a public spectacle of myself.

We too made our way into the packed halls of the main building.

“Here we go again.” I thought out loud as the bell went, signalling the start of my brand new high school life.
