Loki's POV:
Yes, they were the words he'd been yearning for her to say for longer than he could remember, but when she said them, it felt as if someone was ripping his heart out.
Because he knew that she deserved more than him. Knew that nothing he could do would be good enough for her. But he was going to try, of course he would. But the thought that he would fail- like he always did, that was what hurt, burnt him deep, deep inside. Because he couldn't fail her, not when everyone else had. And yet he knew he would. And even if he could look after her, even if he could show her the undying love he felt, she was going to die. Because she wasn't immortal, and he was. He thought about what Fyrekyndr had said-
'Even the Aesir do not live forever, and her lifespan is little more than a blip on the threads of time.'
And then-
'Ragnarök. She shall rewrite the beginning of the end.'
And judging from what Fyrekyndr had said, she would change him.
For the better.
But he knew that once she died, naturally, Hela would not be able to bring her back. And he also knew that the day of her death would be the day he watched the world burn, and laughed. So if she were to stop Ragnarök, she'd have to be immortal. Fyrekyndr seemed to sense the future, and Loki realised that they would be together, eventually. And the thought of that warmed his soul, and his heart was put back in its proper place.
There were a lot of things right with his existence as of this moment.
He was going to be with the love of his life.
Ragnarök wasn't coming.
Savannah loved him back.
Well, maybe not that many things, but at least they were the important ones.
A/N: I could leave the story here. What do you think? If not, I have planned the final chapter.
