Chapter 2 Gone...But Not Far Enough

Who is a friend?

I'll say someone who you put your trust on. Someone you share your deepest secrets with. Or someone who doesn't need words to understand you. Just a look can tell what is going on in your mind.

When Kent was fighting Sean, something like that happened between them. Something that no other person saw apart from these two. When Kent had held onto Sean's jacket, when his voice had weakened for a moment. That was the moment Sean saw something in Kent's eyes. The moistness that appeared in Kent's eyes in that very moment. That is what compelled Sean to snap out of his anger. Cause then he understood why Kent was blaming him for everything.

Kent had found out about Gerard's death. That guilt would've crushed him. For some reason that news was affecting him so much. His lonely eyes were searching the crowd for something. The one person that stood out in all these strange faces. The one person who could be his salvation. The one person who he called his friend.

Sean was the only one who could've helped him to carry this guilt. This burden that was crushing him from inside. One look at Sean and he knew that his friend is the only one who can carry this burden from him and save him.

But that's not the reason why Kent fired him. No. It's because Sean understood what Kent wanted from him. The moment Kent saw understanding in Sean's eyes, when Sean had come forward to reach out to him. That's when Kent decided to turn his back on his vulnerability. He blamed everything on Sean and with every punch, he freed himself. Sean gladly accepted this burden. He wanted to help him more. But Kent couldn't let that happen. Sean was his strength but Sean could also see right through his weaknesses. That's why Kent turn his back to Sean.

You don't bother with someone, if they never mattered to you once. You never hate someone if you never loved them once. You never show them your secrets if you never trusted them once. You never cry in front of them if you never found peace with them once. You never turn your back on someone if they never had your back once.

A month later after Kent's return...

"Christmas is something we all look forward to. But what really catches the eye is the traditional Christmas Party that is held in Stevens Mansion every year.

It can be understood why it was skipped this year. While S.I. is been going through a heavy loss, it did not make it any easier on them when the name himself went into hiding.

It's been a whole month since we last saw Mr. Stevens in the public, where out of nowhere he turned out to have survived that plane crash. The world was trying to recover from that but Mr. Stevens denied any interviews and social appearances after that.

The last time he was seen was at the funeral of Mr. Gerard Miller, vice president of S.I, who was shot while he was returning from the launch party of a new plant of Stevens Biotechs. More report on that will be discussed after this story.

Right now, our main focus is on Mr. Kent Stevens. While we got no news of what he has been doing in his time off, the wait is finally over. After a whole month of silence, his close allies have confirmed that he'll resume his office today. We've our reporters waiting in front of SI's main building. We'll bring you live updates from there. Meanwhile, let's discuss how the man survived that plane crash.

Our sources tell us that while it was thought that the CEO of this multibillion empire supposedly died in the crash. But the security head that was accompanying him in that plane had....."

Kent muted the flat screen as he came out of the shower. That was just it. The media was ticking him in the nerves. The news had gone out before he could make any efforts to assure its secrecy. It was general knowledge that he'll be resuming his job from today. Three days after the Christmas.
