You were curled up on one of the studio couches, scrolling through your Instagram feed while your boyfriend sat in front of a computer, working on a new song. You and Yoongi were supposed to have left for your date an hour ago, but you usually didn't really feel like telling him to leave when he was writing. You two were different than most couples. While other couples may enjoy going on classy restaurant dates or spending a day at the amusement park, times with you two just being in each other's company and allowing silence to take over was oddly more satisfying than what any other date could offer. But today's silence was diminished with the constant tapping Yoongi was making with his pencil.
"Yoongi-oppa? Are you okay?" He groans and swivels around to face you, running his fingers through his hair. He squeezes his eyes shut and you become worried by his behavior.
"I can't think of any good lyrics. Everything I write sounds like crap." He tries to fling the pencil onto the couch beside you, but you find it flying toward your face and you duck quickly to avoid the collision.
"Shit." In a second he's sitting right next to you, holding your face in his warm hands, checking to see if you're hurt.
"I'm so sorry, ______. I didn't mean for it to-."
"Hey, idiot. I'm fine." you giggle, but become serious quickly. You cover the hands that are holding your cheeks with yours. "But you aren't fine. Your writing isn't crap. You're one of the best songwriters I know." you say and his hands slip from yours.
"I don't even know what to believe anymore. Everything I write just sounds wrong to me. I'm even having trouble figuring out who could be on vocals. It's never been this hard before." A frown etches across his face and you can't help, but feel sorry for him. His group was recognized for their songwriting, singing, rapping, and amazing dance skills, but one could only handle so much rehearsing in one day.
"Maybe I could help figure out some lyrics with you." Yoongi looks at you curiously and you quickly backtrack. "I mean, I don't really know how to write lyrics, but you might have been staring at the page too long and it could be really obvious what comes next and-" He cuts you off with a quick kiss to the lips. When he pulls back, he gives you a small smile and you can't help but do the same.
"That would be great. Thanks." Heat rises to you cheeks. Geez it's already been a year and I'm still a puddle around him, you think.
"Uh, so where's the song." you ask, mostly to divert the attention from your burning cheeks. You follow him to the computer and take a seat in his lap. He clicks the mouse a couple of times and a sweet, soulful sound plays from the speakers with a mix of a beat that one could only find in a hip hop track. You smile. This song had Yoongi written all over it. Yoongi reaches towards the side of the desk and hands you a notebook with lyrics scribbled it.
Your eyebrows furrow and you take control of the mouse, replaying certain sections over and over again. You grab a discarded pen and start jotting words onto the page. Your boyfriend just watches you in awe when you practically yell, "Done!". Handing him the notebook, you bite your lip nervously when he scans through what you've written.
"_______," he begins and you lean away, afraid he'll think your idea is stupid. "You're absolutely brilliant!" He wraps his arms around your waist tightly, surprising you. You feel your shoulder lighten immensely.
"We only need a vocal now. I can't think of anyone who comes to mind. Either Jungkook, Taehyung, or Jimin would be good, but I don't think they would be able to bring the song to its fullest..." Yoongi thinks out loud for a while and you quietly take the notebook from his hand, softly singing the words to the song while running through a list of possible vocalists in your mind. Your voice silences Yoongi looks at you, deep in thought. You catch him watching you.
"Do you want something?"
"Go into the recording booth."
"Just go?" He lifts you off his laps and pushes you in there with the notebook and closes the door. Yoongi speaks in to a microphone outside.
"Wear the headset and sing the song." You widen your eyes and quickly shake your head. This was not what you meant by helping him.
"No way. I can't sing." You jerk on the door, but the lock holds it shut.
"Please, _______?" He gives you a pout, but you can see in his eyes how much he needs this. Just do it for him. It's the least you can do.
"You owe me." you whisper but you know he hears you loud and clear from the loud laugh you hear. Placing the headset on your head, you take a few deep breaths before giving Yoongi a thumbs up.
The sweet melody from before plays and you try you best to sing loud and clear. You feel Yoongi gazing at you and you almost lose beat. You close your eyes and recall all the times you've spent with Yoongi, from the first meeting till now. You belt out the last note and your heart is thumping in your chest at the rush you had just felt. As you exit the booth, Yoongi wraps you in a tight hug, burying his face into your neck.
"You never told me you could sing." You laugh.
"I think all those times in the shower really paid off." He smiles into your neck.
"I think I found what the song was missing."
"Really?" you mockingly ask, already knowing what he's going to say. "What was it?"
"It was missing you"
