Wattpad stories have always been layered. Now the way we categorize them will be too.
We're introducing a new category system in May that helps writers represent their stories more accurately and helps readers find exactly what they're looking for
What's new:
🧡 Multiple genres: Choose up to three genres and up to three subgenres per genre.
🧡 Dedicated fandom fields for Fanfiction: Select up to three fandoms for your story or suggest new ones.
🧡 Smarter structure behind the scenes: Clearer labels help improve search, recommendations, and discovery.

For writers, this means your story will be categorized more accurately instead of being squeezed into one broad genre.

We're also building this with discovery in mind — so more precise categories will help your stories show up in search, recommendations, and browsing in more meaningful ways, making it easier for readers to find exactly what they're looking for. Soon, we'll introduce new ways to showcase these categories across Wattpad.
