"Happy birthday!" Grant exclaims, presenting a cupcake to me.

"Happy birthday?" I exclaim, taking the dessert anyway, "Our History final is today!"

"And it's our last final, Ven. Chill out," Grant easily smiles, "Then we're done for the year."

"Well, History is gonna be easy for you."

"Psh, you know you're gonna do better than me, Venice," Grant rolls his eyes, "I'll see ya on the other side, alright?"

     "Yeah," I sigh, "Good luck."

     "Same goes for you."

     •••

"That was so easy! " I shout, "I told you!"

"What the hell, woman?" Grant shouts back, "I told you!"

"Whatever," I mutter before exclaiming, "Let's celebrate!"

Grant smiles at me, his gray eyes looking lighter, "Burgers?"

     "Hell yeah!"

We walk over to his car. Grant doesn't immediately start it up, instead, he looks over at me. I scrunch up my eyebrows in confusion.

"Happy birthday," he says for the second time today, "I got you a present."

     "You didn't have to."

"Well, I did. Suck it up," Grant leans over to the backseat, grabbing onto a gift bag, "Here."

I open it up to find a box. I gaze at Grant, tilting my head. He nods his head, making me continue.

There's a leather ID Bracelet in it. The word Best Friend, on a metal piece, stares back at me. I grin in surprise, "Do you have one?"

He pulls up his sleeve, revealing the same bracelet in a darker leather.

     "Do you like it?"

     "I love it."

Pretty good gift, right?

And summer vacation's just starting for them, when school's just starting for me.
