Shen Wenyu’s eyes narrowed that reaction or lack of one irritated him more than if she had argued back.

Most people would have retreated by now. Lowered their heads and apologized. Tried to explain themselves but Harriet did none of that.

The air between them grew tighter, stretched thin by unspoken tension. Before either of them could speak again, hurried footsteps broke the moment.

A maid approached, stopping a few steps away. She lowered her head respectfully.

“Master Shen,” she said, her voice careful, “Young Master Shen Wenzhou has arrived.”

The shift was immediate.

Shen Wenyu’s expression did not change much, but the faint tension in his jaw eased into something colder, more controlled.

“Lead him in,” he said flatly.

The maid bowed and turned to leave.

Harriet decided not to linger knowing that this is enough for today. She stepped back instinctively, as she created distance between herself and Shen Wenyu. Her movements were quiet and natural, as if she understood without being told that this was not a conversation she should remain part of.

“I’ll head back first,” she said softly.

Shen Wenyu did not stop her and did not even look at her.

Harriet turned and began walking along the stone path, her steps light and composed. The earlier tension seemed to fade from her expression, replaced once more by that calm, gentle demeanor she wore so easily.

But her mind was not idle.

The name lingered in her thoughts as she stepped aside, her pace unhurried, her posture still composed.

Who is he? Harriet asked inwardly, her expression unchanged as she moved away from the path.
