"Pink isn't just a color, it's an attitude!" ~ Miley Cyrus
"Hello?" I call. "Mom? Liv? I'm home!"
"Emily! You're home!" I hear my mother yell. There's an echo of footsteps and then the both of them end up in the foyer with me.
They both give me a hug. I've only seen them once since I went to school and it was just for a weekend.
"Merry Christmas!" I exclaim. "I missed you guys!"
"Hurry up and go put your stuff away and get ready!" My mom tells me. "We have people coming over in a half an hour."
"Okay, I'm gonna go get changed," I say. As I go upstairs and begin to put my things away, Olivia comes in behind me.
"Hey, Em," She announces.
"Hey," I reply. "What's up?"
"So, I kinda have this thing with this kid," She says.
"Ooh," I hum. "Who is it?"
"He's a senior," She replies. "He's coming tonight. His name is Mason."
"Does he go to your school?" I ask.
"I think I know who you're talking about," I respond. "So tell me about it."
"He's so cute, Em. I like him a lot. But, like, it's nothing too complicated. We're not dating, but we're together, if you know what I mean. Everyone knows that we're like off limits because we're with each other, but then at the same time we're not together."
"Okay, I get it," I understand.
"Oh, also, I have a proposition for you," She tells me.
"What's your proposition?"
"I'm taking Mason down to Naples on Friday for the weekend. We're just spending a few days down there to see everybody again. Why don't you come with us?"
"No thanks," I deny.
"Are you just gonna avoid Charlie forever?" She asks.
"That's the goal," I reply.
"It's not like you even had a bad breakup!" She exclaims. "I'm sure that if you go down there and see everybody then it'll be like nothing ever happened between you two."
"Too much happened for it to be like nothing happened," I reply. "I'm not going."
Long story short, I'm going to Naples.
I'm here right now, actually. We're inside our dad's house right now and I'm regretting my decision already.
This is going to be so awkward.
My dad isn't even home. Him and Cynthia went on vacation to Italy for a week. We're going to be here for four days and we won't even see him, but we do have the house to ourselves.
"Emily!" Olivia calls.
"We're going down to the Goodman's!" She screams.
"Okay, have fun," I say, going into the hallway outside my bedroom so that I can see her.
"No, come with us!"
"You can't avoid Charlie forever."
"I know," I reply. "You've been telling me that for a few days know. I know."
