The day started out sunny and exciting. Moving to a new home usually felt refreshing. Though, this move didn't quite set in with the mother. She worried the house was too close to the forest for the sake of her daughter's safety. It was the only house up for sale in the area closest to a decent school.Just settling into the new home, everything was quiet. She hadn't yet fixed the TV or set up a radio, so the silence was endlessly eerie. Meanwhile, to start early, she began unpacking her daughter's boxes. Going back and forth between the small closet and the two boxes. When that was quickly finished, she started setting up the pink room while her daughter slept soundly on the newly arrived couch downstairs.
Humming, she placed the glass pony on top of the dresser before turning to get more items. When she turned back to the dresser, the pony was suddenly missing from its spot. She halted and furrowed her eyebrows. That's odd.
She searched all around the room for the shiny little object. Only giving up when it was useless, went back to unpacking the stuffed toys. Once she finished, she went and searched for the little pony again. It bothered her and nagged at her. Something's just not right.
"Mommy! Mommy!" Her daughter shouted from downstairs. Thinking the worst of it, she raced downstairs and entered the living room.
"What is it, Adeline? What's wrong, sweetheart?"
"I had a bad dream."
She sighed and pulled her daughter into a hug. "It's alright. It's not real. No more boogie monster under our beds."
"No!" She whined. "I'm not scared of the boogie man anymore!"
"Then what was your dream about, baby?"
"He told me not to tell," She whispered under her breath. It was almost hard to decipher.
"Who. . . Who told you not to tell, Addie?" She was just a little girl. Little girls always have odd dreams.
"I can't tell you," She smiled like it was playful banter. "He said no."
A bang came from the front door, following after her daughter's words. Standing up, the mother crept toward the sudden noise and let out a gasp. There were tiny specks of blood on the door. The glass pony was shattered and spread all across the floor.
"Misfit! Stop laughing, that's not funny!"
