He sat back down looking angry and flustered.

"James" I said softly. His eyes met mine, and his expression softened.

"Look, Peyton. I'm sorry, it's just that..."

"No, it's okay. You were just looking out for me"

"I just wanted to protect you from those guys. They're nothing but trouble. I didn't want them hurting you, my friend." I smiled, happy that I was his friend. The conversation faded, and the rest of our time in the diner was silent.

After having a bite to eat, James drove me home. I sat in the passenger's seat like last time, looking down at my feet. We hadn't talk after he apologized for the situation at the diner. I decided to break the silence. "So, where did you live before you moved here?"

"Oh, I use to live in....Ohio" he said plainly.

"Do you have any family in Ohio?"

"What about your life in Ohio?"

"What about it?"

"What did you do for fun? What were you're friends like? You know, you're social life"

"I didn't have much of social life"

"Oh. Really?"

"What do you mean by 'oh really'?"

"Oh, nothing. I just thought you'd be really popular, because you're so athletic and you're pretty popular with the girls at our school..." I realized that my last sentence would probably make him get the wrong idea. "Sorry, I mean...I-I" I was stuttering like an idiot.

"You think I'm popular with the girls at our school?" He asked smiling at me.

"No! No, no, no. What I meant was...." I couldn't find an excuse or other words to take back what I said. I started blushing, feeling myself get fustrated and embarrassed. Suddenly I felt his hand on my shoulder.

"It's okay, I get it. You think I'm a player, don't you?"

"No, no. I-I" I stuttered, blushing harder.

"You're cute when you blush" he smiled. I blushed even harder, hearing him chuckle slightly. He then looked forward and kept driving. "Just so you know, I'm not a player." For the rest of the car ride I sat silently. The good news is that Me and James are friends, and I guess I've made him pretty happy with embarrassing myself. I'm such an idiot around guys, I thought. I'm just an idiot....
