Chapter 73
Sunday December 10th
Harry's POV

"I don't need an intern today"

"What? I have Parker on your service" Ezra looked at me. We were in line together in the cafeteria, by unfortunate circumstances, not by choice. I didn't really like to conversate in the mornings, especially this early, but if I could try and get free from working with an intern I didn't want, then I would do anything.

"Well put him somewhere else then" I made a face of annoyance, because there was clearly an easy solution to be had here. If I'm saying I don't need an intern, then they need to find someplace else to go. Everyone here is so adamant that they are taught and actually learn something, but if I have no surgeries or jobs for them to do, then it kind of guess against the purpose, doesn't it?

"Parker has barely worked on pediatrics since he's started, I'm in charge of giving them a well-rounded education" Ezra countered, clearly he wasn't seeing the fact that I wasn't interested. Yesterday, I was forced to have some irrelevant intern on my service, who dropped an entire unit of blood all over the floor. I can't be bothered to work with such incompetence, not when it came to the kids. If I couldn't have Mallory on my service right now, then no intern was the next best option.

"Do I look like I care about that?" I stared at him. I didn't want to teach the others, I wanted to teach Mallory. She's far away from choosing a specialty, as it's not for another 4 years of learning, but she has a place on pediatrics. I can tell.

"Didn't you do your residency here? Aren't the doctors here how you became so good?" Ezra questioned, I saw what he was trying to do. He was trying to guilt me with my own resident experience and compare it to how experienced and prepared I've become, and that I should instill that same drive into these new interns. However he was slightly off because although I did learn and do procedures underneath the older attendings here, my mother is the one who drilled my brilliance into me.

"I'm glad we agree on two things" I remarked, adding two cups of strawberry yogurt to my tray.

"Two?" Ezra backtracked.

"That I'm good and that I have no intern today" I stated, making it to the register where I would pay for all the items I bought. I had two sets of meals, one that I needed to bring to pediatrics and the other that I needed to bring to the ICU. It evidently wasn't the nice breakfast that I had planned on bringing Mallory the other morning, but this is the cards we were dealt.

"Where am I supposed to put him?" Ezra groaned, seemingly, he was giving in. Otherwise, he wouldn't have asked me that question.

"Plastics, Ortho, cardio, neuro, should I continue?" I rattled off a short list unbothered.

"I guess he can go to neuro" Ezra muttered, annoyed that I was making changes to his schedule. Look, is it really my fault the interns can't work on my service, if the only one who knows what they're doing is Mallory? They've been here almost 4 months, and they still can't be trusted to not spill blood all over the hospital floors, never mind hold a scalpel.

"See you around" I cheekily smiled, ending the conversation and walking away. I went to my right, deciding to go visit Mallory first, because it would be easier than going back and forth across the whole building.

I didn't know if she was awake yet or not, but I guess I was going to find out. I wouldn't be surprised if she was still sleeping, yesterday was evidently very difficult on her. I only got to see her for a little bit during the day, because Max had walked in and ruined everything, but I could just tell that she wasn't okay. Despite her sitting there smiling and playing games with her friends, she was sad, I could tell by looking in her eyes.
