I was pretending to guard the hallway. But..I was watching him. Through the glass.

WICKED uniform, helmet on, posture straight.
And there he was.
Thomas.

Working inside the lab with Teresa... I think that was her name.. and a few others. He looked older. Puberty finally hit him.

He was taller now, the softness gone. He looked tired, concentrated, sad. No beard, though.

I wasn't there for any of it. Two and a half years gone, and he had grown up without me.

I had lived with Jenson long enough to figure out his password, so I got into the system days ago and found out Thomas was transferred here every Wednesday for research.

So I destroyed the gps in my helmet, making sure no one would follow me, and got into the medical wing.

He was so close. So painfully close, every Wednesday.
I didn't have long before someone would notice.

And then he stood up. Walked out of the lab. Right into the corridor. Heading to the men's bathroom.

My heart jumped up into my throat. I have to..

I waited a few seconds.
Then walked straight into the men's bathroom after him.

The cabin door was closed. I stood right in front the urinal pretending. My heart was hammering uncontrollably. Come on, Tommy. Get out.

Finally, the door opened.

And just as Thomas stepped out, I shoved him back inside, and slammed the door shut with us both in there.

"What the fuck..?" he yelped, stumbling backwards, tripping over the toilet, grabbing the wall to steady himself. His eyes went wide, shocked and confused. PFFFF.

I reached up and pushed my mask back. My hands were shaking.

"Hello, Tommy."

He swallowed, eyes widening. For a second he didn't move, just stared at me.

"(Y/n)," he breathed.

I smiled, tears blurring my vision.

He launched forward and his arms wrapped around me so tight it knocked the air from my lungs. I hugged him back just as hard, burying my face into his shoulder.

"Oh my god," I whispered, my voice breaking, "your voice got so deep."

For a long moment we just stood there, clinging to each other.

When we finally pulled apart, my hands went straight to his face. Our foreheads were resting against each other.

"It's been so long," I whispered.

"Yeah," Thomas breathed, voice cracking. "I thought you were..I thought you were gone. Ava told me you disappeared."

"No," I shook my head hard, tears rolling down my cheek. "No, I've been living in the city. I'm a soldier now. I..I kill cranks. I'm... with Janson."

"Janson?"

"I've been writing you all this time," I said quickly.

"I didn't get anything," he said. "But I've been writing to you too."

"I haven't gotten anything," I whispered. "I only knew you were still alive. Thomas, she did everything she could to keep us apart." My voice cracked again. I pulled him into another quick hug.

"I shouldn't even be here. I don't have long."

"Gosh," he whispered, "you changed so much."

"So did you," I smiled weakly.
