Post-Race Parties are the best! But, there haven't been a whole lot lately because there haven't been a whole lot of races happening around town because the cops have been out in swarms every night for the past nine days. So, we thought we'd get everyone together.
We threw a party at the garage. Everyone was invited, so everyone came! And, when I say "everyone," I mean EVERYONE! Racers and drifters and builders from all around the world showed up!
A lot of folks were saying that they'd heard that I had come to town, but I have no clue what they're talking about. This is my first time here, and I came here to work the docks and lay low. I took the grocery-getter out today (2019 Ford F150 with a ladder rack and a tool shack). But, they were saying the Ghost of Rockport was here in Ventura, so I know they were talking about me. And, that's confusing for me on so many levels. First, because I've been racing in a BRZ! But, that's not the weirdest part...
Someone mentioned that there was a rumor of an M3 GTR in town wrecking the cops, but I find that confusing. As described, that's my car. But, Ginnie's not rolled on this asphalt yet.
I don't know... It's all just so weird to me.
How could they know I'm here?
Doesn't matter. What matters is that we had a lot of fun for the first time in NIGHTS!
I was chatting with one of the local legends (Byrn) about how I fell into the mix, and Spike butts in with his whole frat-boy vibe.
"Yo, yo! Let me tell you!" he starts in his RedBull-fueled frenzy. "There I was, down at the Docks, in the middle of the night, trying to work on my cornering, but I keep spinning out, and keep spinning out, and keep spinning out at the same turn. I got all the other ones, but that one was just giving me all kinds of hell.
"I get out of the car, and I see this dude, THIS DUDE RIGHT HERE, standing under a street lamp holding a sandwich in one hand and a fish in the other. Yo! I'm talking, like, a big-ol', freshly-caught fish. And, he's just staring at me like he knows he could do better. Y'all know the look!
"So, I go, 'Yo, old man! You think you could do better?!' And, he just looks at his truck and goes, 'In Nora? Nope. In yours? Definitely! Want me to teach you?'
"'Ey, yo! We did, maybe three laps with him in the driver's seat of my wheels, and he hits every turn perfectly every time, and each time, he's like, 'Watch my hands. Don't worry about the line. That's mine, not yours. I've got it.' Or, like, 'Watch my feet, stop watching the road. That's mine, not yours.'"
"That's not at all how that went, Spike," I interjected. "And, you're taking too long to tell the story of how I taught you to drift. Point is, y'all. I saw him struggling, so I showed him what was possible, then I showed him how to do it on his own."
Travis piped up just then, which startled me because I didn't realize he was within earshot. "And, that's why we let him hang with us! Teaching outlaws how to be better outlaws."
"Naw..." retorted Manu. "Ain't no way Spike didn't pick anything up from me. My style is impeccable, and we all know Spike wants to grow up to be me someday, right?"
"And," added Robyn. "That's why we worship you, Manu, but we love CC more."
We all floated around a bit more. Just soaking in the positive energy of the event. But, I could also feel the tension of an evening filled with racers without a race to run. It was so thick, you'd have to cut it with a MIG welder! More talks of Ghosts in town, which is why the cops are always out in full force. But, no one's sure which Ghost. Is it the one from Rockport? No, can't be. He's in a black-site prison. Or, she's actually working for the shadow governments, helping out with vehicular warfare on the front lines of wherever. No, no, no. That's the Ghost of Palmont. Everyone knows he was captured and turned state's evidence. No, no, no. You're all wrong. Rockport and Palmont city was done by the same person! And, no one knows who it was, nor where they're at now. Some say they smashed through a guard rail and crashed down the mountain. The Ghost's dead. Can't be! The Ghost is here! In Ventura Bay!
