"nice game today, ahn. keep making the team proud as ever."
yujin smiled and bowed at her coach as the woman patted her back and ruffled her hair—despite it being drenched in sweat.
as the coach walked away, the gym slowly emptied, the sounds of chatter and footsteps fading into the distance. before she knew it, yujin was alone.
yujin exhaled deeply, tilting her head back slightly. alone at last.
or at least, she thought she was.
she reached for her water bottle, chugging down the last few sips before lowering it to her side. but just as she was about to put it back, her vision suddenly went dark.
hands. warm, gentle covering her eyes from behind.
her heart jumped—just for a second—before a familiar warmth settled in her chest. the touch was familiar, comforting. a teasing smile tugged at her lips.
"jimin?"
the hands were instantly lifted, and before yujin could turn around, she felt arms wrapping around her waist, pulling her into a hug. she barely had time to react before was enveloped in warmth, the scent of vanilla shampoo filled her senses. she melted without hesitation.
"i smell so bad right now, rina," she murmured, chuckling softly.
"no, you don't," karina mumbled against her shoulder. "and even if you do, i don't care."
yujin laughed, twisting her arms to meet the girl's gaze. her heart softened at the sight--jimin looking up at her with a playful glint in her eyes, her posture was much more relaxed now.
"i haven't seen you since earlier," yujin murmured. "how was the quiz bee?"
karina hummed in thought, resting her chin on yujin's shoulder. "it was okay. i didn't win, though."
yujin frowned slightly, lifting a hand to gently caress the strands of karina's hair. "you know i'm still proud of you, right?"
karina pulled back slightly, grinning. "this is why i love you."
she playfully booped yujin's nose, earning a soft giggle in return.
"you did great in the game today," karina added, her eyes twinkling.
yujin raised a brow, tucking a stray strand of hair behind jimin's ear. "you watched?"
karina's smile widened. "the finals ended early, so i ran here as fast as i could just to see you."
yujin barely had time to process those words before jimin leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss against her cheek. it was warm, fleeting, but it left her heart racing.
but just as quickly as the moment blossomed, it shattered.
a sudden sound—a door closing.
both girls flinched.
yujin's head snapped toward the noise, her pulse quickening. wonyoung, however, looked even more concerned. her gaze remained fixed on the slightly ajar door, the way it swung back and forth as if someone had just bolted out of the gym.
"was there someone else here?" yujin muttered, her voice came out quieter than she intended
karina didn't answer. her fingers clenched the hem of her skirt, her expression shifting into something yujin didn't like—fear.
the basketball player immediately reached for her, grabbing her arm in reassurance. "jimin-ah," she called softly, bringing their eyes back together.
yujin offered a small, lopsided smile, one that is meant to reassure. "everything's going to be alright."
but neither of them really believed it.
—
the morning passed in a blur, and soon, students had settled into their respective classrooms.
karina walked in as usual, expecting nothing out of the ordinary. but the moment she stepped through the door, she felt it.
eyes.
all on her.
she felt stares burning against her skin, whispers suffocating her ears. a creeping sense of unease curled in her stomach.
before she could process it, a tall girl approached her with a bright, almost oblivious smile.
"hello, jimin-ssi!" she chirped. "we're not that close, but i was just wondering—are you really dating ahn yujin? because if you are, you two are just sooo—"
karina's ears started ringing.
her hands clenched at her sides, her heartbeat pounding in her chest as whispers filled the room. some subtle, some not. some with amusement, others with curiosity.
they knew.
someone saw. and it was her.
her secret—their secret—was out.
the girl was still talking, oblivious to karina's spiraling thoughts. and the whispers grew louder, like an unbearable hum filling the space around her. she couldn't quite make out what most of them were saying, but she didn't want to.
"what... what is wrong with you?" karina finally managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper.
she didn't wait for a response.
without another word, she turned on her heel and walked out.
the girl stood there, blinking in confusion.
her friend beside her let out a sigh, rubbing her temples before muttering under her breath,
"you fucked up, jang."
