In the middle of the night, Zhang Kun, snoring loudly, was suddenly woken by a phone call.
"Who is it!" he groggily answered, only to hear Wei Ye's voice. "You're the one who slandered me to Sheng Daquan, aren't you?"
"How can that be called slander? You've been chasing after Sheng Qingqing all along." Zhang
Kun laughed loudly. "Doesn't your hand hurt?" Wei Ye said calmly, "Fine, I got it."
"So what if I admit it?" Wei Ye seemed law-abiding, and Zhang Kun was certain he couldn't do anything to him. His laughter was arrogant. "Go ahead and call the police if you dare!"
Anyone else would probably be furious at such a rogue, but Wei Ye's voice was remarkably calm, even eerily so. He chuckled. "I heard you got fired from Tattoo Studio."
"Fuck you, you deserve it! Why didn't Sheng Daquan kill you?!" Hit where it hurt, Zhang Kun cursed and continued venting his anger until the other end hung up.
Not long after, a knock sounded at the door. "Your takeout is here."
Zhang Kun wanted to say he hadn't ordered takeout, but then he felt hungry, so he called out, "Coming!"
It was a cheap rental room. Zhang Kun struggled to put on his crutches and limped to open the door. Passing by the narrow window, the night outside was dark.
The deliveryman outside had his head down, his hat covering his face, and his voice was deep and unfamiliar. "What happened to your leg?"
Zhang Kun retorted rudely, "None of your business!"
The day after Wei Ye was injured, he had been hit by a car. There were no security cameras in that area, so not only had the perpetrator not been found, but he had also lost his job at the tattoo parlor.
Thinking about his bad luck, Zhang Kun snatched the takeout and said gruffly, "You'll get a bad review." He
tried to pull it, but couldn't budge it.
The deliveryman took a step forward, and the door was pushed open by him. Zhang Kun was stunned. "What are you doing—"
"Bang!" He was punched, the takeout bag was slammed onto his face, and darkness engulfed him.
Zhang Kun clutched his stomach and fell to the ground, trembling with fear. "Who...who are you? What do you want?"
"What are you afraid of? It's not like
I'm going to rape you." The man joked with surprising ease. Footsteps sounded beside him, and the man squatted down next to him. Zhang Kun swallowed hard and begged for mercy, "Brother, if I've offended you, I'll apologize. You want money..."
"Too bad, although I'm quite short of money," the man sighed, "but you're just too annoying."
"This broken leg might still heal, that's not good." His injured leg was poked a few times, causing Zhang Kun to break out in a sweat from the pain. The man pondered for a moment, then chuckled, "Have you ever crushed garlic? Actually, human toe bones are very soft, especially the little toe. They crumble easily, feeling similar to garlic."
Zhang Kun was nearly scared to death. "Help—" he opened his mouth to scream, but a rag was stuffed into his mouth.
"Shh." A deep, hoarse voice whispered in his ear, like a devil's whisper, "It's so late, let's finish this quickly and not disturb the neighbors."
Zhang Kun trembled with fear, his eyes wide, but all he saw was darkness looming over him.
