Y/N had been waiting for her Quirk for what felt like a painful eternity — though in reality, that "eternity" amounted to the four weeks since Katsuki had manifested his.

It had happened in the final days before the Christmas holidays, when Katsuki's mum had taken her, Izuku, and Katsuki to see the premiere of the newest Silver Age, All Might film.
Y/N and Katsuki had been entrusted with popcorn buckets so large they dwarfed their heads. They were halfway back to their seats when a sharp bang cracked through the cinema hall.
Y/N turned just in time to see Katsuki propelled backwards by a sudden burst of light and heat. He flipped awkwardly before landing squarely on his backside, with the popcorn bucket comically tumbling down onto his spiky blonde hair.
She couldn't help herself, dissolving into a fit of helpless giggles, whilst Izuku ran over - green eyes gleaming, wide with uncontainable excitement. "Kacchan, Kacchan!! It's your quirk!" he beamed, bouncing up and down.
This only caused the laughter escaping the girl to intensify, nearly falling over as she clutched her belly - doubled over.
"S-So your quirk is making popcorn explode?!" she managed to wheeze out whilst wiping her tears at the thought, "WE SHOULD CALL YOU KATSU-WAVE!"
Another fit of giggles, "cause he's like a human sized microwave" she explained to a non-laughing Izuku - gesturing vaguely at the smoking kernels scattered across the floor - wrongly assuming that he must not have understood.
Katsuki's face flared a shade redder than usual as he shoved himself up from the floor, bits of popcorn sliding from his hair. He waved his hands in front of Y/N's face, palms still faintly smoking.
"No, dumbass! It's explosions — the blast came from my hands!
Her laughter faded as she tilted her head in exaggerated contemplation, eyes narrowing thoughtfully at his sharp tone. The sudden seriousness almost making Katsuki falter.
But before he could backtrack, she spun around dramatically, clasping her hands to her chest.
"Mrs Bakugo," she called in mock despair, "Katsuki called me a dumbass again!"
Mitsuki had to press her lips together to stop herself from laughing at their antics. She shot her son a look that promised consequences before turning back to the trio.
"Katsuki, watch your mouth," she scolded, though her amusement was evident. "And how many times do I have to tell you two to call me Mitsuki?"
"Okay Mitsuki," Y/N replied innocently.
Izuku nodded quickly in agreement

But now, four painfully long weeks later, the initial excitement had completely worn off.
What had once felt loud and dazzling and a little bit magical had soured into something far less pleasant.
Y/N was growing tired — properly tired — of Katsuki's constant gloating. And, quite frankly, he was getting meaner.
She could handle his temper. She always had. Katsuki had been bossy since they'd learned how to talk. His sharp words bounced off her easily enough.
What she couldn't ignore, however, was the way he treated Izuku.
