"Shiki! I don’t wanna go without you! Why did you get expelled?!"
Shinzhi yelled, tugging hard at her brother’s sleeve as if she could pull him back up to his feet by force.
"At least come drop me off! I already skipped detention yesterday— that bald old hag will kill me if I’m late!"
She pouted, but Shiki only chuckled and reached over to ruffle her hair, making it a complete mess.
"It’s Onii-chan for you. Did you forget the bet, Shinzhi?"
He teased, grinning as she scowled and fixed her headband.
"You always win our bets! We don’t even know which one of us is older anyway!"
She whined, her dark blue eyes darting around the cluttered room.
Just then, Shiki’s phone rang. He answered, his tone loud and proud.
"Oh, you heard? Yeah, I got expelled—hilarious, right? Nah, don’t apologize. I hated that guy’s guts too. He even tried to hit on Zhi."
He laughed before hanging up, wearing that same careless, gleeful smile.
"Because of you, not even girls want to talk to me anymore!"
Shinzhi huffed, still trying to drag him out of the chair.
"If I call you Onii-chan, will you come drop me off?"
Shiki’s grin turned mischievous.
"Deal! But you gotta say it first."
He leaned back smugly, messing with her hair again.
"Shiki-nii-chan! Happy now?"
She crossed her arms, glaring up at him.
"Happiest," he said, pinching her cheeks until she slapped his hand away.
The door suddenly slid open with a loud clack.
"Papa—"
Shinzhi froze mid-word as Ichinose Tsuyoshi’s glare cut through the air, landing squarely on Shiki.
"What do you mean you got expelled, you idiot?!"
Tsuyoshi barked, his fist connecting sharply with Shiki’s shoulder.
"Explain yourself, you dumb child!"
"Oh, shut up. It doesn’t matter."
Shiki muttered, leaning back with a scowl.
Shinzhi flopped onto the bed, her eyes drifting to the walls covered with weapons and half-cleaned guns as the shouting continued.
"Zhi, get up. I’ll drive you to school," Tsuyoshi said finally, his tone softening.
She giggled and nodded, hopping off the bed.
"Oii, Zhi! You said you’d go with me!"
Shiki complained dramatically.
"If you keep this up, you’ll end up a good-for-nothing!"
Their father snapped.
"Tch... At least I won’t end up lame like you. I’m glad we’re not related by blood."
Shiki’s voice dropped cold, and the room fell silent.
"Onii-chan!!"
Shinzhi shouted, hurling a pillow straight at his face
"If you talk to Papa that way again—"
"Yeah, yeah, Papa's little princess. Go with him. I wish I was adopted by some rich guy," Shiki said casually, and Shinzhi’s glare could have cut through steel.
"Idiot! Fool! Stupid! Bastard! Pig! Ughhh! I wish I was actually Papa’s and you weren’t my twin!"
Shinzhi shouted, shoving him away and sticking her tongue out in dramatic frustration.
Right then, a sharp bonk against her head made her hiss.
"Papa!! That hurts!"
She rubbed the sore spot, but moments later she pressed a quick kiss to his cheek and sighed. Her gaze drifted toward the room, and for a fleeting moment, her expression softened into sadness.
