A week later and my getting ready for school routine is on point.

I wake up to my alarm blasting Partition by Rihanna and get out of bed to shower. I put on a little make-up and straighten my hair.

I knock on Jacob's door until I hear him yell, eat breakfast, ignore my mother's bitching, and pick up Caty and Sean.

The school day is uneventful. We had a pop quiz in Physics, which I totally aced and Luke totally flunked.

"What's the point of pop quizzes anyway?" Luke complained to me on the way to the elective wing of the school, "and don't give me that 'to see who actually pays attention' crap, Mel, because I do pay attention. I should just drop out."

"I'm sure your education director mother would be all for that, Luke. It was a 5 point test, it's not going to ruin your 3.4 grade point average." I rolled my eyes. He can be so annoying sometimes.

"For you're information, Melissa Graham, I'm now at a 3.6" He sounded so pleased with that.

"Try a 4.7, honey!" I blew him a kiss and walked into art.

I took my seat next to Amber Chase, my closest friend from the swim team.

"Hey Amber! You excited for tryouts today!?" I said eagerly.

"Um I guess.. But it's dumb that we have to go. I mean, we did make varsity last year, and it's not like we're going to lose it over the summer." She huffed, kind of annoyed.

I completely agree with her. So I made varsity swim my sophomore year, but still have to tryout? I just don't get it.

"So anyway, did you hear about the new girl that's trying out today?" Amber asked me, smiling weirdly.

"I didn't even know we had a new girl at the school." I frowned. Since I'm President, it's my job to welcome any new students, and I wasn't told to.

"No! Not a new girl, but a girl that's trying out for the swim team for the first time. She's a senior, like us. She didn't tell you?"

"I don't even know who it is, Amber. Can you tell me?"

"No way. I want to see your face when you see her. You'll just have to wait until then." Amber smirked and turned back to her drawing.

The teacher came up to us, asking us to show her our work for no apparent reason.

After she walked away, Amber looked at my drawing and laughed, "Damn girl, for you being perfect at everything, you do, I can't believe you can't even draw a flower." Amber held up my drawing and then showed me hers.

"Well not everyone is an artist like you, Amber." I grumbled. I honestly could not draw even a square for the life of me.

Spanish was the last period of the day, and was completely pointless. We had a sub that didn't even speak Spanish and tried to teach us French.

Once that ended, I raced to the locker room, skipping my normal 'after-class-locker-meet' with Caty, Luke, and Sean.

I got to the locker room before anyone else, and raced into the natatorium. I started to stretch and finished just as the rest of the team came outside. I turned to welcome the newcomer, and my jaw literally dropped.

"Caty!??" She always told me she hated swimming; one of the reasons she always danced.

She gave me a half smile and a small, fake chuckle, "Heh.. Surprise?" She said it meekly.

I ignored her and focused my attention at Miss Hall, the varsity swim coach. She was a stern woman, with blonde hair always pinned up and terrifying dark blue eyes. She always acted scary, you just had to warm up to her.
