The words sliced through the air like a cold blade. Harriet caught her breath her body reacting before her mind could rein it in. Her shoulders stiffened a faint tremor traced down her hand. A chill crawled across her skin, instinctual, raw a memory etched too deep from a past she couldn’t scrub away.
The silence between them thickened. It was heavy and suffocating.
Shen Wenyu’s black eyes lingered on her face, analyzing with quiet intensity. He saw the minute quiver of her fingers, the tight press of her lips, the small flutter of her throat as she swallowed hard. Recognition flickered in his gaze he had noticed. And yet, with deliberate cruelty or perhaps mercy, he smothered it, turning his face away as though it meant nothing.
“Leave it,” he said at last, his tone calm but final, dismissive in a way that allowed no room for argument. “That will be enough.”
Her lips parted, as if to argue but the sharp finality in his expression warned her better. “Yes.” The word left her throat low, almost a whisper.
She turned quickly her each step measured, though the weight of his gaze followed her like a shadow. By the time the heavy door clicked shut behind her, her composure fractured.
Her breath came too fast, uneven, her pulse racing in her chest. She pressed her trembling hand against her skirt to steady herself, but the shaking wouldn’t stop. Why did her body react like that?
She pressed her palm over her chest, forcing her lungs to steady.
"227 explain what happened earlier." Harriet said with a hint nervousness in her voice.
[It's the reaction of someone who experienced abuse Host, based on the original body it must be instinct body reaction due to the level of abuse she suffered.]
Harriet knew that the original Harriet experienced maltreatment in the Lin family and she felt a little pity however it's not her turn to feel this way now that she's in this situation and a task to complete. Seeing it Host has some doubts even though hearing 227 explanation it chose to continue it word.
[Don't worry Host it's just a temporary reaction, I assure that you have the full grasp of this new body.] Hearing the following up reassurance of its system her tense body came back to normal.
Her system is correct she's now in this new body and she's the one in control thinking about this her brow soften. But as she walked down the dark corridor, one thought clung to her Shen Wenyu that moody person had noticed her falter. He had seen the slip in her mask. And though he chose to turn a blind eye… Harriet could not shake the certainty that he hadn’t dismissed it. She might have to think of another way to get close to him as soon as possible to finish this task and go to the next world.
The days unfolded with the house’s usual stillness. Shen Wenyu stayed in his study for hours, the faint sound of pages turning drifting through the thin wall that separated their rooms. Harriet, however, didn’t waste a moment. She moved through the house with quiet precision her each step was deliberate. While she appeared soft and effortless, her mind worked with sharp awareness.
Through 227’s help, she monitored Shen Wenyu’s action. Every time he takes action being shifted or his study door unlocked, she knew. The system showed it through its visual interference that appeared in her which she can see, allowing her to time her actions perfectly. If Shen Wenyu stretched after long hours of reading, Harriet would already be in the lounge, pretending to leaf through a book, her soft hair cascading down her shoulder under the morning light. If he paused near the hallway, she would be there arranging a vase, her eyes lifting just in time to meet his before looking away with gentle composure.
