Chapter Twenty-Two

He liked me?

He, Lorenzo Romano, liked me, Katherine Anderson?

How?

Why?

That was the main question- why? Why did he like me?

A burst of laughter erupted from my throat as I stared into his eyes. "Are you having a laugh?"

There was no response from Lorenzo so I continued. "What do you mean you like me? You don't even know me!"

"Katherine." Lorenzo finally said as he took a step towards me.

"Woah there, keep your distance." I told him as I took raised my palms up in the air and took a step back.

"I'm not going to hurt you Katherine, ever."

I raised my eyebrows.

A bit too late for that buddy!

But hurting me wasn't the reason I took a step back, I took a step back to create distance between us. I didn't want a repeat of what happened earlier.

"Can we talk? Please?"

"Isn't that what we're doing right now?" I gestured towards the two of us and made a 'duh' face.

Lorenzo looked up at the ceiling and sighed before looking back at me. "Please."

I could tell the word 'please' was not what he wanted to say and he had others possibly more decorative things he wanted to say.

"Fine, let's go back to the kitchen." I didn't want to have this discussion in my bedroom, I didn't want Lorenzo to get any ideas.

I didn't want to get any ideas either!

As I entered the kitchen my eyes flickered over to the dining table that had all the snacks hastily on it from my attempt to tidy the mess Lorenzo created when he pushed everything off the table and plopped me on it.

A shiver ran down my spine as I thought back to his lips on mine, his hands in my hair, his hands roaming across my body as he pulled me into him.

The feeling of him underneath me...

Wrapping my arms around me, I shook my head.

Be gone, thot-y and horny thoughts, be gone.

It had been a while since I last dated someone and even though I didn't want to date or feel the need to be with someone clearly my body and mind had other ideas. I must be in desperate need of attention and sex if I was lusting over Lorenzo.

"Are you cold?" Lorenzo questioned as he took a step towards.

"I'm fine." I snapped, my anger more directed to me than him.

"Are we not sitting here?" Lorenzo pointed to the dining table and chair, a small smile played on his face as if he was recalling a fond memory.

"No. Living room." I told him as I headed over to it. Bedroom was a no-go zone from the start but now kitchen has been added onto the list.

I motioned for Lorenzo to take a seat on the sofa before sitting down as far away from his as the three-seater sofa would allow. Lorenzo raised an eyebrow as if to say 'really' but otherwise didn't comment on my seating choice.

"Explain."

"I want you." Lorenzo shrugged as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

He wanted me? Why did he want me? For sex?

"Great explanation." I muttered sarcastically.

Lorenzo let out a little laugh. "What do you want me to say Katherine? I like you, I want you. Not sure how I can make that any clearer."

"Why? That's the part I'm struggling with. Why do you want me?"

"Who wouldn't want you? Have you looked at the mirror Katherine, you're fucking beautiful."

His words had my heart racing and I willed it to behave. I wasn't the type of girl to get impressed by flattery and a few words so why was I acting like a school girl with a crush?

"But why do youwant me?"

Lorenzo stood up from his seat abruptly and began pacing in front of me, debating on how to answer that question. It was evident from his body language and facial expression that he was struggling.

What was he struggling with? It was a simple question.

"This is not how I wanted to tell you." Lorenzo said as he finally turned to face me.

"Tell me what?"

The emotions on his face suggested that whatever he would say next would change everything.

"You're my mate."
