Why?

They push me to the floor
I don't try to get up
They kick my stomach
They hit me
They split my lip
They give me a black eye
I don't know why
But I have had enough
I want to know why
So I grab a leg
They strain to pull it away
I pull them down
Down to the floor
The floor smeared with my blood
I muster up the last of my energy
To climb on top of them
To hold them in place
To make sure they can't get away
I know their friend ran to get someone
But I don't care anymore
I grip their shirt
Why do you do this?
What did I do?
Why won't you stop?
"We'll never stop."
"You took Drew from us."
"It's your fault."
"You are the reason he died."
No. I'm not.
"He was looking for you."
"If you hadn't run away, he'd still be here."
It wasn't my fault.
They told me to leave.
I told him not to look for me.
But he did anyway.
Why do you even care about Drew?
He was nothing to you.
"He was my best friend."
"I lost my best friend because his sister ran away."
"You ran away from home and he went looking for you."
"You ran because someone said some mean things to you."
Their lips twitched into a smile
When I felt two arms grab me
They picked me up
And dragged me to the office
They called my parents
They told them to sit me down
To find a way
A way to stop hurting myself
They suggested music
But I just shrugged
Whatever
They sighed
And let me leave
I knew they wanted to help
But I didn't care what they wanted
I had my answers
All I wanted to know was
Why?
