I Care

You will be the first to stand up and shout it from the rooftops,

"I care"

When they turn to laugh at you, you must only smile in return.

Feeling sorry for those who won't let themselves feel.

Those who won't let themselves laugh and cry and be passionate about the one thing that brightens their eyes and brings them to smile.

It is much easier to pretend that you don't care.

To curl up inside of your shell and form a mask that lets the people think that they can't get to you.

To be warm and cozy behind your tough exterior,

How could you allow them to extinguish your flame?

Just because the world doesn't like to find the beauty in the rain doesn't mean that you cannot.

It doesn't mean that you can't run around and splash in puddles while feeling their cold unforgiving gazes forcing themselves into the back of your mind.

But just trust that you are doing it right.

You always have been,

and you always will be.

And that is why you must be the first to quietly whisper to yourself,

"I care"

You care about the stars in the sky and the clouds up above,

You care about the words on the page and how they found the ability to let you feel.

You care about pain.

You care about happiness.

You care about other people.

Do not allow yourself to push the feeling away,

It'll all work out okay.

And even if it doesn't, that's alright.

At least we can still shout up into the night.

"I care"
