I swam as fast as my tail could carry me.
"YOU WILL NOT WIN. I WILL OUTPLAY YOU. YOUR A GUPPY."
I shouted at the top of my lungs, this puny little shrimp. I am the prince, the heir to the throne, the son of Triton, King of the Sea.
"Watch me yOuR HiGhNeSs." The other merman mocked.
"How dare you speak to me that way? I am your prince and future king."
I swam to that little pygmy Seahorse and picked him up by his shoulders. I threw over him over my shoulder and swam as fast as I could. I threw him on the beach. Back to MY home, back to MY castle. I swam into my room filed with all of my weapons, my trident. The trident that my position. My position of power, my position in parliament, and my position in the royal family. My sister quickly swam into my room.
"Get out, Cordelia." I whined, flipping over in my bed and covering my head with my pillow. She swam over to me.
"I would get out, but dad knows what you did and wants to see, you know." She said.
I moved the pillow and looked into her beautiful sea foam green eyes. They reminded me of my mother. A mother taken from me too early by humans. Those evil, vial beings that hate us. We just want to coexist, but they want us dead each and every one of us.
"I do not care what dad said, lia," I snorted. The look in her eyes went from sadness to fear in an instant.
"Please, you have to go he's really mad
I'm very worried he's going to do something he will regret." She looked at me with the most fear I'd ever seen in her eyes.
I shot up and swam to the throne room. My father was in a fit rage. He had chairs over his head. He threw them at his advisors. At that moment, I got scared not for myself but for Lia. If he harmed her in any way, I would be taking the throne that night. I looked at Lia, and she looked at me with horror in her eyes. Feat I hadn't seen in a long time.
"Lia," I whispered. Her eyes met mine.
"Lia, go. I can handle this." She swam off speedily, tears streaming down her face as she swam off.
"Father," I called. He continued to scream at the top of his lungs at his advisors.
"Father," I said louder. He continued to ignore me.
"FATHER," I shouted. "YOU SUMMONED ME AND NOW I AM HERE I WILL NOT BE IGNORED." He stared at me like I had committed an act of treason before turning to his advisors.
"Leave us." He said. His deep voice seemed to echo through the castle. His advisors turned to me in shock and fear before they left. My father hovered in place for what seemed like ages. He turned his head slightly to look at me.
"What makes you think you can speak to me that way you dwarf pufferfish. YOU ARE NOTHING BUT AN INSOLENT CHILD WHO HAS NO HUMILITY AND I AM THE KING OF THE SEA YOU ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO ME." My father screamed.
"WHO AM I THE PRINCE YOUR SON. THE SON WHO YOU CLAIM TO LOVE. THE SON WHO YOU RAISED. THE SIN WHO IS THE HEIR TO THE THRONE." I screamed back.
Why was he saying these things? Was this really how he felt. Was I really nothing to him.
My father turned completely to face me. He grabbed his trident. He stared into my eyes for what seemed like years.
"I speak to you this way, for you are no longer air to the throne." He said his voice soft. His voice echoed through the room like a gong.
"What do you mean, father? All I've ever wanted is to be king, you know that." My breath seemed to catch.
"My advisors and I were discussing your behavior they have decided you're not ready to take the throne. You're like a child still. The throne is going to your cousin Caspian.
"I am deeply sorry, my son. I tried to fight for your right to the throne. It just cannot be." My father spoke softly. Even when it was soft, there was still an echo. He outstretched his arms, trying to pull me into an embrace. I moved before he could. I just hovered there. I'm trying to take in everything I had just heard. Everything I had ever worked for, everything I had ever wanted gone in an instant.
"Son." My father choked out.
I looked up at him. His ocean blue eyes peirceing into my soul. Tears streamed down his Sunkissed skin.
"I......I do not understand why this is happening." I choked out. I'm trying to hold back my own tears. I am the prince. The future king. I do not cry, or at least I was.
"That boy you threw onto the beach. He almost died. Nor all mermaids can change dylan, only the royal family. He almost dried out. He could not get to the ocean on time. One of our guards found him before that happened. But my advisors and parliament want to banish you for your pride and childish behavior. If you can lean from your choices before your cousin is crowned king, you may take the throne. Till then. You are not permitted in this castle or this ocean." He was crying harder now.
My father, the man who had not cried when we lost my mother, the man who banished who banished the slimey sea cucumber that hurt my sister without strife or tears.
"Father," i called to him. "Father, please, I can change, I swear, Father, please." I cried a single tear falling from my face. This is all I would ever allow to escape me in front of anyone.
"I have no choice. I am truly sorry, my son. Go collect your things. You are not to set foot in the ocean again." He tried to swim away, but I grabbed his wrist.
"Father, please." My voice broke a little as I spoke. He twisted his arm out of my grasp and swam away. I stayed there and cried. I cried for what felt like ages, then I felt a gentle embrace. I looked up to see the seafoam green eyes of my sister. She had tears streaming down her gold specked face.
"Lia, if Caspian so much as looks at you wrong, I will get back in this ocean. I will make sure he can not look at anyone again. Lia looked into her brothers eyes, realizing her one and only true protector was banished. My sister was alluring to all men without even trying her sea foam green eyes and hair as golden as the sun. Every man we trusted around her broke our trust.
"Mark my word, Lia. i do not care if I get killed by coming back into the ocean. I will protect you at all costs. I will return once I can convince dad's advisors that I am worthy." I swam to my room and grabbed my trident, not just any trident the trident my mother gave me the day I joined parliament. It was silver with specks of blue. When used properly, it would glow blue all around. Each prong had waves engraved into it. I grabbed it and swam to the beach. I shook off the water. The minute I dried off, i started wincing and convulsing in pain. I do not remember the transmission hurting this much. The blue and gold scales started to disappear as my gills disappeared. I was gasping for air. I clutched my trident so hard my knuckles were white.
"This is it. I'm going to die.
The pain stopped. I slowly stood up and looked around. There was sand for miles. Not a tree or piece of sea grass anywhere. I took a step and fell on my face. I kept trying to walk, but each time, the same outcome. After multiple tries, I was able to stand without wobbling. I started walking. I walked and walked for miles. Until I came across a worn down building. It was dark now. I thought I could stay in this building for shelter until day break. I walked inside and saw the silhouette of someone on the floor. They had their weapon pulled out and facing me.
"Who are you?" they called out.
